I take no responsibility for anything that may happen whilst downloading....I tried it and it works for me....there is also a link for goggles in there as I believe neither are available via the market at the moment!

Anyone looking for Layar it can be found here, log into facebook and search for HTC LEGEND group at the moment it is still quite high up the list, You need to visit via your legend and then you can download.

Just an additional note from myself - I found both Layar and Google Goggles with a simple market search, and in the general listings while browsing, so they are definitely there

And what phone are you looking in the marketplace with? On the Legend neither is available in the marketplace, A search for goggles brings up 2 results and a search for Layar brings up 1 result!
It is a common known problem on the legend as the software on it is not compatible with all Apps at the moment!

Do Vodafone have an official statement on this problem and an indication of when its going to be fixed?
For example will the fix be rolled out with 2.1 Update 1?
For some reason my Legend is still on 2.1 and when I run the update function it says no updates are available, yet I know many people with Update 1 already on their phones (although they have HTC desires so I'm not sure if its staged for different phones)?
Thanks for any info
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
I imagine this must be very disappointing for the Legend users. In all honesty I wasn't aware of this until I saw this thread myself.
As you said Android Market issues are dealt with by HTC and Google so I any official statement would be coming from them as all we can do is speculate as we don't have any power over the market development.
I fully appreciate this is frustrating for you however all we can do is await work from either HTC or Google about how and when this will be sorted.
Thanks

The Desire is totally unbranded. I'm assuming that as the Legend is branded by Vodafone , we will need to wait for them to get their act together and OK the update while Desire owners get their updates direct.

The legend is not branded as such, there are some Vodafone apps pre-installed on the device and it has a loading screen with the VF symbol, thats about it really

Anyway, per the reply below. While the problem of missing apps is down to HTC and Google don't Vodafone have a relantionship with both ? Vodafone is in a postition to talk to them and get the apps available sooner, we'd hope. If I complain they won't take much notice, if a company and customer with the financial clout of Vodafone complain I suspect things might start moving quickly ! As Vodafone are selling the phones and services and as your paying customer I'd like to see VF do a bit more than just say its not are fault.

Is it an automatic update or do you have to implement it yourself?

Most Android updates are over the air (in fact almost all of them are), of these there are automatic updates that are pushed out and some that don't 'flash up' as such, meaning you'll need to go into your settings> About phone> and search for any existing updates, if they are available.
Regarding whether the legend update has been rolled out or not, we do not have any information regarding availability or ETA's
Thanks

And as for the update...Vodafone seriously need to pull there finger out now....Google did what they needed to do....now you guys need to make it available....it really hampers the ability of the phone not being able to use these apps...and its not just those using the camera but also some that are copy protected....
Vodafone needs to get this fixed soon.....you cant blame Google or HTC anymore!!

HTC rolled out a firmware update for the Legend on the 22nd, which resolves the issue. Unfortunately as vodafone use a slightly modified firmware (I believe), if you try and upgrade your Legend it'll think it's currently up to date at least that's certainly mine and a fair few others experience
Presumably vodafone will be releasing the new firmware themselves at some point. The 22nd wasn't all that long ago in fairness and two of the days have been the weekend so not much benefit getting worked up about it yet. That said though, if vodafone continue having their own 'tweaked' version of the basic firmware, I imagine we may need to get used to having somewhat delayed releases compared to those on the standard version.

Its just that other networks have had it pushed already I believe with Vodafone falling behind that's causing the fuss...

Working in the software industry myself I understand how tough it can be to get software out of the door and all the quality control processes that must be followed.
But it doesn't stop it being frustrating to the end user :-)
