Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

I had been following this thread, hoping to find a solution.

then I found a solution that worked for me, and I wanted to share it :

I simply uninstalled BattStatt.

(the developper wrote in a new update note that he corrected some mistakes(works fine), and I punished him by uninstalling his app.)

I guess that if you have this widget installed, this should be your solution. Good luck for others !

At least it shows that the problem may come from a random application

I use Android 2.2, in France with SFR.

kernel :

2.6.32.17-g732a780

htc-kernel@and18-2 #1

build 3.14.163.1 CL282424 release-keys

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

From the "Update to 2.2 (Froyo) has degraded the phones performance" thread:

Update to 2.2 (Froyo) has degrade the phone's performance Update to 2.2 (Froyo) has degrade the phone's performance Update to 2.2 (Froyo) has degrade the phone's performance Update to 2.2 (Froyo) has degrade the phone's performance

More investigation into the most hardcore of android forums has lead to the suggestion that enabling "debug mode" (for development purposes) removes the problems I described.

It is accessible under Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging

If you are reading this with the problems I described then do this right away and viola, you have a phone in your pocket again and not a brick!

I have no understanding of how this works! I can only think that the flag as to whether debugging is enabled or not has been reversed so "enabling it" actually turns debugging off....generally a bit of kit running is debug is slower than general usage.

Turning on USB debugging really worked for me! Running good now for days.

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

I'll try the debugging thing.

I've found that wifi drains the battery incredibly quickly after the Froyo update, by the way, and I've also solved the laggy texting problem by installing Swiftkey.

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

OK, I tried the USB dev feature and although this helps with the performance it causes a message to appear when I sync the legend with my pc. An alert pops up warning me that the USB dev feature is enabled! This sucks, why do we need to enable this function to improve performance of the os/phone? Is 2.2 so borked????? Please fix this properly Vofafone/Google.

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

I also tried turning on USB debug and then plugging in the phone to my PC. After that, I disconnected the phone and turned off USB debug, and it has worked very nice ever since. So try and just turn debug on, plug it in, disconnect it and turn off debug.

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

Turned on debugging mode, uninstalled as much software as possible, removed live wallpapers, updated all apps and moved to 16gb micro sd card, memory usage down ot 35%.

Hooray I thought, the issue though is that the phone continues to load apps by itself, memory usage by the end of the day has increased to about 80%, even if the phone hasn't been used. Internet access is slow if using the v. network, if the signal strength is below 3 bars, I have no hope of surfing, battery has to be charged daily, even if not used.

This is the worst phone that I have ever owned, sort it out vodafone.

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

I switched the debugging feature on and managed to get 3 1/2 days out of the battery!

Sounds nice, doesn't it?

Shame it only works when you don't really use the thing. As soon as you switch wifi on the battery drain starts, and when you start using apps it ... slows ....... down ........ more ............. and .......................... more.

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

So are vodafone ignoring this thread now................... though it does state in the T & C's they don't monitor the forums.

I am going to send my phone back and cancel my contract, living in a good signal area may help with the issues but as I don't then the issues I have with this phone will never go away.

I have been into the shop and they checked the signal in my area, mucked around with the phone and got me an extra signal bar. I never had any such issues with my Samsung Omnia or the Samsung Jet, I could surf the web on any signal strength, just a shame I upgraded to this piece of looks very nice paperweight.

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

USB debugging cleared this issue on 2 x Legend / Froyo phones. Performance has been fine ever since.

Thanks for posting the fix

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

Is there any update on this.

Looks like a real problem that needs to be fixed for 2.2 to work correctly.

Unless Vodafone are planning to fix it with the implementation of 2.3.

Albert.

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

I kept the USB debugging option on and phone runs super quick, no issues.

I turn it off when I go to bed so perhaps this resets it each night?

During the day I usually have wifi and data updates set to OFF and after being on for 12 hours with 20 mins of usage the phone still had 85% charge left on the battery - pre Froyo I would've had no more than 30%.

Switching on USB Debugging seems to have fixed the issue, for the time being at least. Thanks!

Re: HTC Legend - post FroYo - 100% CPU issue (more than one handset)

hello there folks,

Looking for a bit of help/advice, I have had the Legend handset for around a year and have had the above mentioned problems constantly for that period since update. The issue is not with my physical device it is the software. I was unaware I was entiltled to get this fixed free off charge from vodafone until a friend mentioned it.

I sent my phone off via my local vodafone store, on the return of the handset the accompanying letter stated the problem was "fixed" and the handset had been "thourghly tested". When I got it home the phone was even worse utterly unuseable, I contacted the customer service and to my surprise I was offered a new phone to be couriered out the next day, brilliant I thought!

When the courier arrived my girlfirend handed my phone over as requested the customer service rep.

When I got in from work it turns out it was a refurbished handset, minus a battery and back. I was not told to keep either by the rep and I was not made aware that it was a refurb. Their response was that I was to buy a battery and back my self from a phone parts shop and claim it back!!!! They eventually said they would send the parts out directly but could not send it to a store for collection. I was told I could "just upgrade".

I am 4 months away from the end of my contract and was looking to take out a new one with vodafone in December to get the latest HTC handset, all I want is a good working handset until around then, which I dont feel a refurb (second hand) of the same model will provide.

What I can do from here? Has anybody had a similar experience and can give advice?

Thanks
