HTC M8s won't start

4: Newbie

Tried to turn it on this morning after recharging (battery had gone flat).

Can only get a sort of boot screen headed 'Software Status Modified'

There is a menu system with several options but I always come back to the boot screen.

Any help would be appreciated

Great news!
Glad your phone is working again 😊

An after thought.

On the day my phone went down the missus had switched it on.  (It was serving as a wifi hotspot because our broadband was down).  Since then, her phone went into boot mode.  I think she has a habit of accidentally holding down the volume button when switching the phone on.

Any thoughts?

I expect your phone already had the fault but going into boot mode could have triggered it to fail? It's probably due to a faulty batch of chips on the motherboard?

I remember when I updated my wife's galaxy note (1). It had worked perfectly before but during the update it died and would not start. Searching the net it seems faulty boot partition was the issue there too.

The boot partition is stored on a Nand Flash module. This is like a tiny micro sdcard which is soldered onto the motherboard of the phone.

I expect HTC have swapped out your motherboard? It would be the fastest and most efficient repair.

TSD 😉
