Couldn't get letters to be spelt out nor the ' symbol that you had after the second *

It forces the handset to checkin with Googles update servers.

I imagine the system slowly feeds it to handsets so there's no server overload.

There can't be that many Magics left in circulation. I wonder how many there are on VOdafone.

The checkin thing made my phone tell me there's a system update, and it seemed to then install something and reboot.

I guess this is the first half of the update?

It should be installing the 2nd half now that it's rebooted. At least according to "Tom"!.

leave the handset on wifi, plug the charger in and go have a cup of tea!!!!

It took a while for the second update to show up and my handset when I did this using the t-mobile ROM.

The second update is 70Mb + so it will take a while to show up/download and then install........

I hope he doesn't intend to mislead too, but the fact is that if your phone isn't downloading the 2nd part of the update now then he has posted incorrect information. If your phone downloads the 2nd update in a few days time, then we know that "Trev" posted the correct sequence of events. As ever it's a case of if you ask a question then the total number of solutions will equal the number of forum staff who replied, i,e, no two people say the same thing.

I got a message about the first part, and I've not noticed anything happening since the reboot.  I did the check-in code and it tells me "success".  Still on 1.6.

the first update is the new bootloader, you need this for the second update to work.

run checkin again after the first update and navigate to the software update page in your about phone settings, you may well see the second update is already downloading.

Vodafone are not pushing the second update yet. The only reason the unofficial / official T-Mobile update will work when telling the phone to check the servers Is because the update Is already being pushed by their servers. Jesus guys, use a bit of common sense. I also see there are no thanks for my ultimate info finding skills a few days ago when I said all this would happen.

Mods: Will the update come out of our "unlimited" allowance, or will it be free?

I can't connect to any wifi at the moment, and I don't want to be using up valuable megs out of my "unlimited" allowance.
