Hi swarren

Thanks for confirming that installed applications remain after the update... can you let me know if SMS/MMS/etc still remain?  Or do these need to be backed up before installing the update?

Many thanks,

Simon.

Hi Simon

I did backup using "SMS Backup and Restore" because I am an overly cautious but I did not need to restore as all texts were as I had left them, in both the stock app and Chompsms that I use.

If you have any other questions I will try to answer them for you.

Re: HTC Magic - Android 2.2 Froyo Update

I can confirm that I lost neither my apps, my contacts or any SMS messages.

The SMS messages seemed to be in reverse order, but they were all still there.

Re: HTC Magic - Android 2.2 Froyo Update

I'm currently installing part 2.

On wifi, I ran a checkin, that brought-up part 1. After it'd fully reloaded, I ran checkin again. Then when I went to settings>system updates it was downloading part 2.

Thanks Vodafone for finally coming good with this update.

[ Edited ]

Mine updated part 2 today at aboput the same time as it did part 1 yesterday.  No checkin in and rebooting, it just started downloading as it sat on my desk.  Over 3G as well, no wifi here, and it didn it really quickly.  No other problems and everything seems to be working fine.

Edit:  Even the free version of Angry Birds I got on v1.6 is faster and less jerky.  Result.

The wifi hotspot function isn't in the build for the Magic. Something about it being too much for the hardware.

Also no live wallpaper and Flash.

Re: HTC Magic - Android 2.2 Froyo Update

Got my update through today after rolling back to a NAND backup from when I rooted. I have to say, this stock update is a hell of a lot smoother than the community developed version but does have less features. I'll be sticking with this at least for now.

Re: HTC Magic - Android 2.2 Froyo Update

Hi Android. I found this information out by Googling the web for articles on 2.2.1 on the Magic. Some gave incorrect information which was generic to 2.2, but some of them correctly pointed out what is missing from the Magic's implementation.

On a side note, I'm jealous that you are going to get a new phone soon. Which one have you gone for!? :smileyhappy:

Andy

Go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications

Under the "Downloaded" Tab, Select the application you want to move and press the "Move to SD card" button halfway down on right hand side, you can verify it has moved by selecting the "On SD Card" tab

I have noticed that not all apps appear to be able to be moved, I haven't found a reason for this yet

Hope this helps

Steve

Re: HTC Magic - Android 2.2 Froyo Update

That would be because the app has to have the option programmed into it to be moved to the SD card, which most apps haven't had implemented yet.

Re: HTC Magic - Android 2.2 Froyo Update

Got part 2 today, about 48 hours after part one.

I quite like it.I noticed that the OS seems a bit more peppy than before the update. There is a big improvement on the speed of the soft keyboard imo.Overall I'm pleased so far. Doesn't seem like it was worth the long wait though, but it's a good update never-the-less.

Thanks for finally getting this sorted Vodafone.

Re: HTC Magic - Android 2.2 Froyo Update

If its still there on the market place you could try wifi tether, but that requires ROOT access. I assume that Vodafone has locked that out on the build. The magic quite happily supports wifi tether on the CM builds, so its not hardware, but rather network choice, as Wifi tether is just too useful to be allowed

Re: HTC Magic - Android 2.2 Froyo Update

Roadrunner99, tethering seems to be enabled on my phone. Are you thinking of the wifi hotspot, or have I missed the point?
