Re: HTC Magic - updating will NOT invalidate your warranty

Hi zzubnik - and everyone else,

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, we are aware of this query - it's not being ignored at all.

Sukhi's response is in keeping the company line regarding firmware updates, and we have not been advised of any changes to this policy. Generally we cannot comment on individual cases or resolutions such as shp's here as we do not know and cannot discuss the details or circumstances behind them.

As this is such a contentious issue and has escalated so quickly, I have flagged this up to be checked on in the week. Until then, to avoid any further confusion, I'm not going to comment either way.

We are aware of this discussion, and we will be back as soon as we have any further information.

Thanks Dave, I am grateful for your support, even though I seem to be full of complaint. I really am.

I don't doubt you'll be back when you have some relevant information. Unfortunately I also don't doubt that Vodafone has no intention of focussing on the problems of HTC Magic owners. 12 months from now there will be very few Magic owners left to bore vodafone. Revenue is all that matters to Vodafone, whingers can shut up or clear off, all they do is distract from the core business of tax dodging.

Re: HTC Magic - updating will NOT invalidate your warranty

Hi,

I just had a look at the XDA page for rooting/upgrading the Magic, and it made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Does anyone know where I could find a step-by-step guide in English, rather than being full of Goldcards, SPL's and other things I've never heard of?

Thanks!

Re: HTC Magic - updating will NOT invalidate your warranty

Hi guys,

As promised, i have chased for clarification on this.

There is no change to the company position regarding updating firmware - the installation of any unapproved version will invalidate the Vodafone warranty.

As I mentioned before, I cannot comment on the individual case shp has detailed here, other than to say that the information he was provided is not the official Vodafone position.

Re: HTC Magic - updating will NOT invalidate your warranty

After lengthy discussions with various members of Vodafone's support staff I have finally got the news you've all been waiting for. Android 2.2.1 will be available via download from Vodafone's site before the end of the year. There will be different downloads for different devices but It's Android 2.2.1 for alot of phones (Including the HTC Magic). He also said there would be an OTA update but Vodafone wanted to give users the option of updating their devices themselves If they wished. Finding this information out was not easy, I had spoken to a couple of support staff members who either didn't know what they were talking about or confused the HTC Magic from Vodafone with the unbranded HTC Magic with the different 32A board. I finally got to speak to someone who knew all about the HTC Magic and the ever elusive Android 2.2.1 update. Not wanting to miss out on this opportunity of finally speaking to a knowledgeable person, I asked what the delay had been. This Is what he said verbatim, "There have been delays with this update due to a disagreement that Vodafone, HTC and Google had regarding updating this device." I tried to probe further about exactly what the disagreement had been but I got the impression he was not allowed to say. So there you have It folks, official confirmation that this update will be coming to your device before the end of this year. Merry Christmas everyone, I hope this will finally put an end to this whole debate.
