Funny that the QuickBoot/FastBoot thing has fixed it... Sounds like there was a bad hibernation file that it restored itself from or something. Least it has managed to do the job! There are some other small tweak you could possibly play with within the Developers menu in terms of running processes if it continues to be oddly slow.
I too have jumped ship and have been running HyperNonSense with Faux's latest kernel and its damn fast. However I know its not an option for many so hopefully such issues will get ironed out for everyone.

Alex it worked for me as well I have turned off fast boot, rebooted phone and it works properly again. Much quicker than a hard reboot!

This also seems to have worked with me. Thanks very much for figuring this out.
I've only been running about 10 minutes since I did it but I would say it is definitely a lot quicker. I'll report back again after a few days (if I remember) to confirm that it works permanently.
If it does, maybe this fix should be communicated to the user base more effiiciently than a post buried deep in this forum.
Thanks again Alex.

I had the same problem with my sensation after ICS update - the phone completely slowed down.
I took it to a Vodafone shop today where staff said they were aware of a 'software glitch' with ITC and HTC Sensation. They advised waiting a few weeks, as Vodafone/HTC would surely be releasing a patch/bug-fix - but they weren't able to confirm this. The alternative would be to send the handset in for repair, so the update could be rolled back (which would take a week).
Luckily I stumbled across this forum post about disabling "fast-boot" which seems to have done the trick. I've rebooted and its much much quicker now.
Vodafone should inform staff in stores/call-centres about the "workaround fix" - maybe even pro-actively contacting customers with HTC Sensation handsets.
Regards
Jas

Hopefully there will be some newer and smaller OTA updates to fix any other niggles. Other than the sluggishness that some people are experiencing, how are ouy guys enjoying ICS?
I don't know if the tock launcher takes up more memory as well, but you can try a near vanilla launcher called "Apex Launcher" (free) from the Play Store. I personally use this and it could be a good alternative to those wanting a more streamlined ICS look.

The handset was a refurbished replacement with Android 4 already installed.

Fast boot was already disabled before the factory reset and did not seem to make much difference.
Everything is slow and the phone is at least half a second behind the touch screen. The OS functions are slow and the applications take an age to load up.
It is useless.

Hi.
I too had the above problems, but unfortunately un-ticking the fast boot and restarting did nothing for my phone.
I tried a few different things with the phone and got a result almost instantly and without hard resetting the phone....
I went into settings, then clicked "Develop Option" at the bottom, then scrolled down to "Background Process Limit". I changed this to "No Background Process". Without even resetting my phone after this process my phone's performance got significantly better.
Let me know if this helps any of you.
Good Luck!! ![]()

Very true, you're basically telling Android to no longer multi-task. For those who are having issues, how much free memory do you have?

I have tried the f fast boot but still slow, sol decided to try different launchers, but none really made a difference and no felt a comfortable as sense.
Really unhappy with the hand set, I'd any of the voda mods are on hear please can I swap my sensation for a sgs2 as I don't think this will be spotted in a reasonable amount of times, and as I have until mid 2013 before I can upgrade I'll go bonkers.

I agree, it is a bit drastic. I have from the 1.15GB available storage on the phone, 492MB free. So for this amount of memory left I should not be getting the lagging I'm getting.
I have since my last post changed form No Running Processes to 2 Running Processes and it still seems ok. Even with 2 Running Processes the phone does everything i ask of it.
I did also try to go back to normal but it just came to a standstill again.
For me, my phone was so slow after the ICS update it was becoming un-usable. So if this gets my phone working at its proper speed then im happy with that.
If you have any other suggestions I'd be happy to try them. ![]()

Good stuff and you are correct, with that amount of free RAM available the phone should not be lagging at all. Limiting the system to two or three background processes will be sufficient enough for most users though so its worth a try. If its working for you then stick with it.
I believe its how HTC has added SenseUI to ICS which is causing the sluggish performance. For example I'm running the same HTC Sense build you guys are, but with all the HTC Sense stuff stripped and replaced with stock Android code (AOSP/AOKP); so the ROM itself is under 130MB vs 260MB of the original.
In terms of functionality I have everything and possibly more than what stock has and its much, much faster to use. Of course this is only available if you run a custom ROM and thus doing so would void your warranty. However its a good route to go down if you're due an upgrade soon!

Hi Guys,
If you are seeing performance issues after the recent ICS update please can you try to turn off the background processes as mentioned in the post by bigstevo and let us know how you get on.
Unfortunately once you are passed the initial 7 days period from having your phone we would not be able to exchange this for another make and model.
If the above doesn’t work then a free of charge repair would be the next step for you.

thanks for the reply James,
What is my next step if my handset has been sent away twice and is still at an unsatisfactory quality?
cheers

@bigstevo: XDA is your friend, however if you get stuck feel free to PM me or contact me on twitter etc.
I might do some testing actually with the stock ICS however available free time is a little limited at the moment. I did find it pretty sluggish which is why I switched ROMs.
However, I do hope there is a more accurate solution to resolve the performance issues, because the phone does deserve better. This isn't the fault of Vodafone but perhaps the lack of optimisation HTC has given to their build on the Sensation itself.

Interestingly I re-enabled Fastboot to see if it made any difference (disabling it fixed my lag issues) and low and behold the lag issues gradually re-appeared. Turning it off and rebooting sorted it again.
It's interesting that this hasn't worked for everyone. Limiting the number of background processes doesn't sound like an acceptable fix to me. What's the point of having a powerful dual core phone and then tying it's hands behind it's back in order to solve a problem created soley by the supplier/carrier.
What is clear is that this ICS update was not beta tested to any great extent or this lag issue would have been picked up before release. Pretty poor effort from Vodafone, but then people were so keen to get the update that you can see why it was rushed out.
Is anyone aware of this issue affecting non-Vodafone Sensations?
