Re: HTC Sensation slower after ICS update

Lee,

I got it sorted in a round about way. had to format my mem card but lucky I had backed everything up the night be for (dont trust the handset).

Just a pain that I have to set it up again how I had it!

Re: HTC Sensation slower after ICS update

After months of suffering, I took a similar approach (as cloudbreak did) of installing a different launcher, made it the default, and rebooted the phone.

Now Sense doesn't load and it's made a huge difference to the performance of the phone. Only been a day, so perhaps it's too early to say - but a couple things I  immediately noticed -

 - Response is *much* quicker

 - Battery seems to last much longer than with Sense

Downside is that none of the Sense widgets work. There are a few widgets available but nothing as rich as the Sense widget catalog. This is a bit of a pain since I had multiple widgets on my phone. Oh well, the upside now is I can see myself lasting a bit longer with this phone, whereas earlier I was seriously thinking about binning it.

The launcher I used was the Nova launcher if you're interested.

Seriously, HTC should be hauled up for the mess they have made with Sense. Cool UI and all that, but RAM management is rubbish.

Disclaimer: I don't work for Nova nor do I have any interest in them.

Re: HTC Sensation slower after ICS update

I've also decided to have a go at alternative launchers.

I've installaed ADW launcher and have noticed some improvement.  However the phone is still nowhere near it's pre ICS speed and responsiveness.  The only reason it seems quicker with ADW is that it runs out of RAM less often.  There seems to be some fundamental problem with the way HTC's implenentation of ICS manages memeory.  I'm very disappointed with this and am thankful that I'm only a few months away from an upgrade.

It really is a hard pill to swallow. I did a lot fo research and bought a phone that met all my requirements only to have it 'upgraded' and ruined, reduced to a level I wouldn't be happy with in a million years.  I'm certainly not alone in this but any admission of a problem or even better, a solution has not been forthcoming.

All in all, very disappointing.

I'm having the same problems. I'm trying a different launcher too, and it's mostly fine. I shouldn't have to though, I should be able to use the phone as is, but there doesn't seem to be any other option.

I agree with GPT. The phone works better, but it's still a long way from where it should be. Unfortunately I'm a long way off an upgrade.

I don't know who to be disappointed with. Vodafone or HTC. I suspect it's HTC's fault - I can't see how Vodafone could have messed up the ROM to this extent.

It's hard to not get put off Android completely by this. But I'm trying to remain rational and just blame  this phone or HTC in general. I won't buy either again.

Re: HTC Sensation slower after ICS update

If going to do a factory reset, how do I know everything is backed up properly before I do it - ie contacts - numbers and email addresses, files, photos etc

Re: HTC Sensation slower after ICS update

Factory reset doesn't touch the SD card, but you can backup the folders if you want to in case. As for contacts, so long as they're saved to your Gmail account they'll be dragged down when the phone is set up again. SMSs need an app to back up (I delete all SMSs after I've read them so this is never an issue for me)

Re: HTC Sensation slower after ICS update

I've found something that finally got me back to the speed I only experienced for the first few days of ICS on my Sensation.

1. Go to Settings>Power - Untick fast boot

2. Go to Settings>Develop option>Background process limit - change setting to 'at most 2 processes'

**After reading through the whole forum this is a new suggestion:

3. Also in Develop option turn animation to off in 'Window animation scale' & 'Transition animation scale'

It's now super quick and i've retained Sense UI and all it's great widgets!
