ADW is great, no idea how much RAM you have on the Legend, but be sure to tick the option in ADW Launcher > System Preferences for "System Persistent".

That will help the load times when you return back to the home screen.

LauncherPro is also worth a look

Bare in mind these won't be able to use Sense widgets so you'll need to find alternatives

launcher pro plus is worth a shout....yeah the HTC sense widgets aren't there, but there are alternatives all over the android marketplace. plus it is very stable and customisable.

and if you want a very radical change, and you like to be different from the crowd...check out slidecreen, gorgeous looking home/app

Slidescreen looks like a really interesting concept. You have calls, mails, facebook, etc, on a sliding screen as your home screen. You slide up and down to get to the different bits of information. Unfortunately I didn't really get on with it - maybe I gave up too soon. But as something different I think it's worth looking at?

yeah it takes a lot of getting used to, but i think the thing with Android users is the need to be different to another, so when you're using your phone in front of another Android user, they ask straight away what you are using..

have you tried HelixLauncher?? It's based on a normal Android UI so it runs very fast...also quite adjustable. haven't had any problems whilst testing this....

I used to use Launcher Pro, but it is a bit glitchy since the 2.2 update. Helix launcher sounds interesting but can't find it, (will have a better search later). To the OP, you can't actually turn off Sense :-( as it will always run in the background. These are just alternative launchers.

i could never find helix on the marketplace....but i think it's available on their website (i won't put a link but it's easy enough to find with some googling) just make sure you have 3rd party apps turned on in your app settings..
