HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

Hi,

I have recently purchased a HTC Trophy, but cannot download Apps from the marketplace.

I have signed into my Hotmail account on the phone, so I am logged in to Windows live.

However when I try and download any application, I receive the following error message:

"Can't set up account, there is a problem setting up your account. Try again later. Error code C101A1FA"

Can someone please advise me is this a problem with my specific handset or the Windows Phone 7 service? And how can I resolve this?

Thanks

HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

Hi Belfast,

Congrats on getting a fab new phone, I've just had a play with it in the office and must admit I do like it.

In regards to your query, can i ask at which point the error occurs, is this when you click on the market place or when you select to download an app etc.

Also do you have a 3G siganal?

I have just gone through this and worked first time so would sujjest a master reset by clicking settings - about - reset your phone - yes

Once done, set the phone up again from scratch and see if this rectifies the issue?

Have you connected your live account to Zune? it may be worth going to the Zune site and connecting the live ID there instead of on the phone and see if that works.

HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

Hello - I have the same problem. When I choose to install an app it tells me "Can't get this information at the moment. Check again in a little while". Problem is, I've been checking again in a little while since yesterday morning! I've set up all the necessary windows live ID things that the phone prompts you to do when you get it but it still won't work. I've just called the Vodafone Technical help people and they tell me I need a Gmail account set up to get, and run, the necessary android software. Failing that I have to phone HTC direct.

I'm loathe to reset my phone to the factory settings as I only got it on Saturday and have only just got it how I want it! What a pain. The brief instructions you get in the box don't explain any of this ... If the gmail account thing doesn't work I will let you know!

Hi James.

Thank you for getting back to me.

I've tried resetting the settings but this doesn't seem to work, and I definitely have good 3g reception.

To answer your question, the error message occurs when I try and download an App. The marketplace opens absolutely fine and I can browse apps with no problem, until I try and download anything. I've tried numerous apps, both free and chargeable and it happens every time.

JEBELIOUS

Thanks, I'll try that also. Is it easy enough to set up via the site?

All responses are much appreciated.

Cheers!

HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

I've done it at last! Just downloaded four apps - simple once you've set yourself up. I now have a windows live ID, a gmail account and Zune set up (although I was unable to link my laptop to my phone) - so whichever it is that's done the trick I'm h'app'y...

HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

Hi Emmasam and welcome to the eForum.

Apologies I don't think you've been given the correct advise there. The HTC Trophy is a Windows 7 Mobile device, and not an Android device, it does not require or use Android software, nor does it specifically need a Gmail account.

The email account in question here would be a Live account, or more commonly known as a Hotmail account (Hotmail or Live email address). If you have setup a Hotmail address (should have guided you when first setting up the phone) then that is fine.

The phone should automatically associate your Hotmail address with the Market place, however Jebelious's suggestion is not a bad one either, the main Zune site (as linked) is worth a try, followed by a device reboot.

Once you've signed in with your current email (Hotmail) you'll be prompted to create a Zune tag, or download the Zune software to your PC. Please give all of this a shot and let us know how you get on once you've synced your phone to the newly installed PC version of Zune.

Thanks

HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

Hi Reidar! Thanks for your message. I already had a hotmail address and it was showing as added on my phone but it wouldn't let me download the apps. Kept getting the 'Can't install at the moment - check again later' message. However, I have just installed the Zune software on my PC - and given myself a Zune tag and I can now download the apps successfully on my Trophy.

My laptop is a Sony Vaio running Vista but the phone won't recognise the laptop and Zune doesn't show my htc either even though I've got the bluetooth switched on etc. My printer is run wirelessly so I don't know why it won't recognise the phone. Weirdly the htc wants to connect to the two MAC's operating in the business next door!

Whatever it was I did (or the combination of all) I'm now downloading to my heart's content!

Thanks

HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

Hi Emmasam

Fantastic, this is one to note, especially if it crops up for other users. I'm an iPhone user but was severely tempted by the Trophy, love the interface and the way the applications work, also the long awaited Windows Mobile makeover is spot on I think.

As for your PC connection I'm not sure there, try a cable instead instead of Bluetooth, may have something to do with it.

Thanks

HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

In Theory, you should be able to hook the phone to any laptop and it should prompt the installation/download of the latest version of the Zune software. I believe you may be able to download it from the Zune site and then setup the wireless sync. To synchronise items to the phone to the pc with the software the device has to be charging for it to work.

HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

The Windows Phone guide specifically states that the phone needs to be connected to a Zune enabled account before any downloads take place. Amazing that people missed that in the little WP7 brochure in the box. :-D

Re: HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

  • This is quite a nightmare. I bought 5000 points and I still can't buy a thing. Keep getting this error, even after I did a phone reset and wiped all my information. Goodness I really wish Microsoft can hire an army of quality assurers, such a great phone, but bugs are always shipped with their products.

Hi Belfast

I could see in the thread if you got an answer. I saw this advice for your error code on another site. It seems it could be a parental control issue. Read this. http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsphone7/thread/be5d4860-e063-45f8-9790-2263aa...

Re: HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

Remember you need to download Apps bigger than 20mb from your pc using usb or wireless sync.

Re: HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

The exact same thing is happening to me at the moment :smileysad: i have installed Zune onto my computer and syncronised songs onto my phone that were already on my computer. It now wants me to sign up to the website and im under 18 so need an adult to agree and i was just wondering if you have to pay for zune monthly? and if i do sign up for it will i then be able to download apps from both the HTC hub and the marketplace? any information would be most appreciated thanks :smileyhappy:

Re: HTC Trophy - Cannot download apps?

Hi AliceA123 and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with this.

You will need to sign up for the service in order to download so you'll need an adult to verify that for you. With regards to Zune and any possible subscriptions, I've not personally used Zune before so do not know how ever having had a quick look around on Google (information is actually surprisingly sparse) it would appear that Zune is not a paid service however the renting of Films, downloading of music and apps would be.

Let me know how you get on and if you have any more questions we'll be happy to help

Thanks

Wayne
