HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Hi Just aquired a Wildfire and on some occasions when i receive a call it will not let me drag down to answer it.
Its as if the screen locks and wont let me in until i press the power button which then cuts the call off.
Any ideas why this is happening.
Thanks Ray

HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Hi Ray,

Welcome to the Vodafone eforum from all of the team.

I must admit thast this is a strange one however so we can get to the bottom of this please can you tell us;

Does this happen on every call? or is it intermintent?

Also, how long have you had your phone? where did you get the phone?

If you have had this more than 7-10 days and it was purchased from Vodafone then a free of charge repair would be the next step for you.

The fault is intermitent and i've had the phone for about 2 weeks. I have the phone on a monthly tariff and aquired it as an upgrade directly
from Vodafone.
I hope this helps.

HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Hi cooky100

I can imagine it must be rather annoying for you, as you've not had the phone for long .

Have you downloaded any apps on to the phone? My first suggestion would be a full factory re-set, as this will wipe the phone clean and remove any minor bugs it may have picked up. Please make sure that you back up your phone as all data will be removed.

To do this touch the MENU key
Touch Settings
Scroll to and touch Privacy
Touch Factory data reset
Touch Reset phone
Touch Erase everything.

If this does not help, then the next step would be a repair like James has mentioned above.

Let me know how you get on and if you need further assistance.

HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Well that didn't take long.1st call i received it worked perfectly. The next 2 it wouldn't let me answer.
The only thing i did between the calls was to download an app.

Thanks Ray

HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Hi cooky100,

Thanks for your reply, it definitely sounds like there's a fault with your phone. If you're after a courtesy phone whilst yours is away for repair, I'd recommend organising the repair via your Nearest Vodafone Store. If you have insurance then they'll be able to provide you with a courtesy phone in store, if you don't then you'll be able to sign up for it in store and still get the courtesy phone as long as you commit to at least three months.

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Back again I'm afraid. Phone been away for a fortnight, come back with the repair team telling me there was no problem

and that all they had done was update the software.

This obviously didn't work and ergo I still can't answer calls.

Can you please tell me how I go about acquiring a new phone as it is now beginning to really annoy me.

Thanks Ray

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

[ Edited ]

I too would like to know how I can obtain a replacement handset.

Since the update to Froyo this has got considerably worse for me.  The phone is unable to even fulfil a basic requirement of taking an incoming call. This is clearly an issue related to poor software.

I have to use extra minutes because the only way I can talk to people is to wait and call them back.

I have had nothing but problems with VF since I renewed my contract this time around.  If this cannot be resolved I will be taking both of my contracts elsewhere when they expire.

Please restore my faith in VF!!!

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Hi there sarahj2110,

Thanks for your post regarding your HTC Wildfire and the problems you've been experiencing. I'm also sorry that you've not had a reply yet.

If you feel the handset is faulty, then I have to refer you to our warranty repairs process which can be found in the General FAQ's section of the forum.

Cheers,

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

There is no fault with the phone. It's the actual software on the phone that is appalling. I want another handset, this one is just not usable.

How do I go about this?

Thanks

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Hi sarahj2110

Thanks for your post here.

The phone would need to be sent away for repair so that we can confirm the issue is not hardware related. If you would like to change it to a different handset then you will need to purchase one to use with your current SIM card.

Please let me know how you get on and if you have any more questions we'll be happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

I called up today and have been sent a pre-paid envelope to send this in for repair.

I know that the phone will come back with a report that all is "fine".  The phone has no physical faults and has been restored several times using the HTC software.  This appears to be a waste of both mine and Vodafone’s time.

The phone may have no "faults" that can be resolved, but it is completely unusable and is by no means fit for purpose.  I have increased my price plan at cost of £15 extra per month to ensure that I have adequate minutes to call people back.

When are Vodafone going to accept that this handset is useless?

Why should I have to pay for additional handset when the fault is beyond my control?

When the phone comes back "fine", what am I supposed to do?

I work in the IT industry and advise several businesses with regard to their mobile broadband and business accounts.  For years I have pushed them to go with Vodafone because they used to offer a great service.  When renewal times come round I think they may be going elsewhere.  The level of service provided by Vodafone of recent is appalling.

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

I initially had problems when trying to answer calls on my HTC Wildfire, but have found that if I leave the screen until I see the arrows...ie let the phone ring a couple of times....that I can answer the phone easily.

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

I have also been having the same problem answering calls.

Its intermintent, does not happen on every call

Have had the phone for 5 months now, I had also bought one for my Sis, and she is having the same problem...

I think it might be an issue with the software cuz its moody, sometimes its fine and others its not.

Cheer,

Farhan

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

I have exactly the same problem, except it seems all the time. The touch screen is ok for everything else, addresses, apps all perfect, so seems like software but makes phone useless as described by others

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

Hi there Ben20jones,

Many thanks for your post about the Wildfire being unable to answer calls.

Have you tried a factory reset at all?

If you go down this route then I'd recommend you back up any important information or data first, just in case it doesn't recover the data on reboot.

Let me know how you get on.

Re: HTC Wildfire - Answering Phone Calls

I am feeling very frustated with this aspect of my Wildfire. My sister and I have the exact same phone and we both have problems answering phone calls. None of the solutions listed in this thread help. To answer a call, I try to pull up the unlock ring, then press "Answer". I am frequently disconnected, as though I had pressed "Decline" instead. This morning, I missed a phone call regarding a job interview I did recently. The call was very important to me, and I'm fuming that I missed it because of this rubbish phone. I've already sent this handset in once to be fixed. Useless.
