HTC Wildfire S- Wireless issue

Hi,

I have purchased a Wildfire S on a pay monthly subscription. The issue here is that on hy home wireless network, it fails to get onto the internet. It detects my wireless network, it authenticates with the correct IP address and corresponding channel which is 11. Now this is not a home network issue because my notebook and Iphone works fine over the wireless connection.

Anyone have any I ideas what I could do to rectify this issue??

Thanks,

Gwappo

Re: HTC Wildfire S- Wireless issue

Hi Gwappo and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. I appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

Can you tell me if you are able to test this on a different Wi-Fi network?

What security are you using on your Wi-Fi network?

What router and internet provider are you with?

Would you be able to momentarily turn off security so that you can test to see if it works? (Obviously turn it straight back on afterwards)

Please let me know and we'll be happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne

Wayne,

I have tried another wireless network and was unable to gain access on that as well. Will try your recommendations but so far very disappointed with vodafone overall.

Thanks

Re: HTC Wildfire S- Wireless issue

Hi Gwappo,

To be honest if it is not working with any other wireless network points then it sounds like it could be an issue with the handsets internal WIFI antenna/connector.

If this is the case then the next step to getting this resolved would be to send the phone away for a free of charge warranty repair.

If you were within your first 7 days when you posted this then you should be entightled to a replacement phone. If not then its a case of sending it for repair, which you can do either through Vodafone or Htc. Me personally id send it to Htc.

Re: HTC Wildfire S- Wireless issue

Well looks like this handset is buggered!!  Tried using the wifi at home again with 2 different routers and no security and it still failed.

Guess I'll need to follow the advise from cjm1979but I am in the 1st 7 days of my contract but will rather go to HTC. Vodafone will most likely give me even more problems.

O forget about it. New handset, same story. Still doesn't work. Suppose I'll need to cancel this service.

Re: HTC Wildfire S- Wireless issue

Both myself and my daughter have signed up to contracts in the past week with an HTC Wildfire S handset.

When at home, we cannot access the internet using our home Wifi. It is a BT Home Hub router.

The phone connects to the router OK but when trying to access webpages, it throws up an error "Web page not available".

I've visited a number of forums, including the Android Forum which suggest rebooting the router, "forgetting" all router passwords then entering the WEP keys again. None of these have worked on either phone. In fact, my daughter's now says that it is "Unable to scan for routers".

We are on T-mobile and O2 respectively so it can't be anything to do with the provider.

I have been able to connect without problem to at least 2 other Wifi routers, so it can't be a problem with the hardware.

Can anyone suggest what the issue is, and a solution?

Re: HTC Wildfire S- Wireless issue

Hi kennymca,

I'd suggest checking if there is any block being caused by the security on the router or, more likely, a firewall. The best test is to disable both temporarily and see if you can connect with the handsets then. If you can, then bring the security back up step by step to see what stops the connection working.

Dave

If I've helped at all, please provide a little feedback!

Re: HTC Wildfire S- Wireless issue

Just an update for anyone who is interested.

I believe the issue is with my Anti-Virus firewall, but I've tried changing various settings myself to no avail.

I would suggest anyone else having problems to check their firewall.

I'm currently waiting on the Anti-Virus firewall provider getting back with a possible solution. Will add further posts if I finaly solve the issue.
