HTC Wildfire Touch screen unresponsi ve! Help

Any thoughts? My HTC Wildfire has been struggling with basic commands since July last year. Very slow to open apps and text messages, generally sluggish. When you click to open a text message often opens a completely different message. Within the last two months text messages are slow to send and then go to forced close.
I have tried to delete some messages but the phone just freezes and ends up hanging
Today the touchscreen has failed completely. I cannot even unlock the phone or answer or make any calls. I have tried turning the phone off and back on but no resolutions
Help please?

Hey Tiggyspencer,
Thanks for your post about the screen on your HTC Wildfire.
I have to admit; it doesn't just sound like the screen since the force closes indicate a possible software issue. I appreciate you've tried a hard reset but a factory reset should help things along. You may need to back up your important data first of all, just in case anything goes wrong.
HTC Wildfire Help is the link you will need to factory reset your device.
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers,
Lee

- Turn the power off. If your HTC Wildfire is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
- Hold the Volume Down button
- Press and release the Power button
- You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
- Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
- Press and release the Power button
- Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC Wildfire.
Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.
