HTC Wildfire, generic network failure for MMS

Whenever I try to send an MMS it fails,  and displays the above message. I've gone through and entered the APN and WAP settings on the handset from info provided on here to ppl with similar problems on this forum but still to no avail. Please help!

Hi,

 

A couple of questions that will give the moderators some extra information when diagnosing a fault like this:

 

  • Are you able to make / receive calls?
  • Can you access the internet (MMS would need the GPRS side to be running correctly to function)
  • Has the MMS service ever worked on the handset?
  • Is the problem happening with one specific number or multiple numbers?
  • What happens when you try and send the MMS to your own mobile number

As this is happening to one specific number, I would need to know what this number is, and look at this on the MMS network tools I have available.

I had thus problem, all I had do was turn my Wi-Fi off, I hope this helps.

i have exactly the same problem, called 191 loads.. they sent a new simcard but it turns out my contract has been changed from a 12 mth to an 18mth one and i cant get anybody to rectify it :smileysad: i cant send MMS, the internet doesnt work and now the new sim card means my contract will be extended.. so unhappy..

i have had same problems with wildfire, i was in 3 different towns today and no signal in any of them i tried to send 2 e mails to vodefone about this, once i finished writing when i tried to send it came up error with this page, i phoned and spoke to someone  and they told me there is not a good signal in my part of town i have lived here 10 years always been with vodefone with no problems, why was i not told signal not good where i stay i would not have bought this type of mobile as i work out in the community day and night as a nurse i need mobile i can rely on i feel very let down by vodefone help line and e mail .

I’ll send you an email over to the email address that you registered with so that we can have a look at your contract. A new SIM card should not mean that you have been changed to a new agreement so we’ll be happy to take a look at this.

Can you let us know your full postcode and we’ll have a look at the coverage levels in your area for you and advise of what to do next.

 

Could you also try and expand a little as to the problem you are having? You’ve posted on a thread regarding MMS yet you only mention the problems you are having with signal.

I too have this problem. I have neve tried to use it before, so don't know if it has ever worked. In anticipation of some of the above questions, here are some answers in advance...

 

I can't send MMS messages to anyone.
I can't send MMS messages to my own number.
I can't recieve MMS messages.
I can make calls and access the internet.
I get a good 3G signal.

I have entered the APN settings as noted in numerous places in the forum (although the predefined one there seemed ok already).
Switched off wifi.
Phoned 191 and confirmed that there is no block on MMS messaging.
Tried another sim in the phone.

 

None of this worked.

 

I then tried putting my sim into another non-wildfire phone (with the same APN settings used above), and the MMS messaging appears to send ok.

 

This seems to rule out my account and the sim, suggesting that there is a setting in the handset that is wrong.

 

Any further advise?

Thanks for your post, it is very informative and rules out, as you say, the account or the SIM :smileywink:

 

Could you let me know the settings you are currently using, along with confirmation of whether you're Pay Monthly or PAYG?

I am on pay monthly. Whe you ask for settings, are you referring to the APN settings, or something else?

All of the settings look fine; can I ask if you have tried to use a message client from the Google Play Store such as Handcent?

 

I would give this a go to see if it resolves the issue.

Please please help me. My friend sent me a text message from O2 phone earlier today and since then that same message has repeatedly come thru on my phone every 30/40/50 seconds and is driving me mad.  Vodafone say its an O2 problem O2 say its a vodafone or my sim problem, very helpful.  Anybody have any ideas?

I can appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

 

Normally this happens when the sending network hasn't had a response from the message centre number it is being sent through. In effect the phone will attempt to send it numerous times until the message centre has responded. If no response is received then the message will continue to be attempted.

 

This is normally at the sending network's end.

 

We are unable to see any error reports as we are the recipient network and 02 would need to investigate this as they will be able to see why the message centre is not responding.

 

I wish I could do more for you but we can't help at this juncture.

I actually do use handcent. I get the same problem from the standard client and handcent.

Thanks for confirming that - it helps to narrow down what sort of settings could be causing this to happen.

 

Can I just check if you have the same result whether Wi-Fi is switched on or off? I've done a little digging and during the earlier lifetime of HTC Wildfire this was an android limitation, and switching off Wi-Fi when sending MMS generally resolved this. As such, it's worth checking this with you.

 

If this doesn't make a difference, can you confirm the current Firmware version you're running, as well as the specific phone model (e.g. HTC Wildfire, HTC Wildfire S) as not being the original poster on this thread I realise you may have a similar issue but not necessarily the same handset.
