Re: HTC wildfire can't download MMS

Hi Kate-91-x

Firstly let me offer a very warm welcome to the Vodafone eForum from all of the team.

To be honest when it comes to MMS not working there are 2 possibilities, either the settings in the phone are incorrect or its not set up on your account properly.

To get this resolved the first thing that I would try is to send or receive and MMS in a different phone, if this is OK then it is the settings in the phone.

Next try a different SIM that you know works in your phone, If this works then the settings in the phone are correct. (you may need to go to store to do this if another SIM is not available)

If neither work then we need to set up the phone and the account, although this may sound complicated and confusing, I assure you it isn't.

To set up the phone with the correct settings simply follow the guide below for WAP and MMS;

For WAP

1.Touch the MENU key
2.Touch Settings
3.Touch Wireless & networks
4.Scroll to and touch Mobile networks
5.Touch Access Point Names
6.Touch the MENU key
7.Touch New APN
8.Touch Name
9.Enter Vodafone WAP, touch OK
10.Touch APN
11. Enter:
For Pay monthly customers: wap.vodafone.co.uk
For Pay as you go customers: pp.vodafone.co.uk
12.Touch OK
13.Touch Proxy
14. Enter 212.183.137.012, touch OK
15.Touch Port
16. Enter 8799, touch OK
17.Touch Username
18. Enter WAP, touch OK
19.Touch Password
20. Enter WAP, touch OK
21. Touch the MENU key
22.Touch Save
23. Touch the circle to the right of the Vodafone WAP profile you have just created
24. Touch the Home key to return to the home screen
25. Touch the MENU key
26.Touch All apps
27. Scroll to and touch Internet
28. Touch the MENU key
29.Touch More
30.Touch Settings
31.Touch Set home page
32.Touch Set home page
33. Enter http://live.vodafone.com, touch OK.

For MMS;

1.Touch the MENU key
2.Touch Settings
3.Touch Wireless & networks
4.Scroll to and touch Mobile networks
5.Touch Access Point Names
6.Touch the MENU key
7.Touch New APN
8.Touch Name
9.Enter Vodafone MMS, touch OK
10.Touch APN
11. Enter:
For Pay monthly customers: wap.vodafone.co.uk
For Pay as you go customers: pp.vodafone.co.uk
12.Touch OK
13.Touch Proxy
14. Enter 212.183.137.012, touch OK
15.Touch Port
16. Enter 8799, touch OK
17.Touch Username
18. Enter wap, touch OK
19.Touch Password
20. Enter wap, touch OK
21.Touch MMSC
22. Enter http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms, touch OK
23.Touch MMS proxy
24. Enter 212.183.137.012, touch OK
25.Touch MMS port
26. Enter 8799, touch OK
27. Touch the MENU key
28.Touch Save
29. Touch the circle to the right of the Vodafone MMS profile you have just created.

If this doesn't work and it is the account that isn't set up correctly, let me know and we can get in touch to get it all sorted for you. :smileywink:

Re: HTC wildfire can't download MMS

Hi James.

I have a similar problem to Kate-91-x. While in the states recently I received the message "generic network failure" when attempting to send a picture back to the UK.

Now in the UK I get a message saying "message not downloaded. Transient failure", when I try to download an MMS.

This has not been resolved by entering the details below. I notice that in the MMS section you have not given an entry for the server. Should there be one?  Robb

Re: HTC wildfire can't download MMS

Hi 020robb

Let me firstly welcome you to the Vodafone eForum. It's always good to see new faces around here. :smileyhappy:

I'm confident we can assist in this issue too. :smileyhappy:

Firstly, the settings James has kindly posted, are correct. They are all you need to correctly set up MMS on the Wildfire. Did you try your SIM in a different handset, or a different SIm in your handset? If you did, what were the results, and if not could you give this a try?

The results from this would greatly help how we need to approach this issue for you.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards

Trev

Re: HTC wildfire can't download MMS

Hi All,

When trying to download MMS, make sure you don't have WiFi enabled! This can stop MMS coming through.

You may have to delete the MMS that is stuck and ask the person to resend once you are on 3g and not on WiFi.

Re: HTC wildfire can't download MMS

I'm having the same problem. Vodafone sent me an e-mail with the settings on which I have changed. Seems to work for a day and then the problem returns. The info say's choose the APN you have just created, fine but we can only choose 1 or the other. So which one do we need to use? MMS or WAP? I used MMS today and couldn't connect to the internet so am now back on WAP. After a reset the MMS works on this. It's almost like the phone isn't connecting to recieve the MMS. I have to hard reset and then it works.

Any help as it's a pain in the ar(s. It's a simple thing you'd expect a SMART phone to do isn't it?

Re: HTC wildfire can't download MMS

Hi Trev

I still have not resolved the problem with sending/receiving MMS messages which I first posted in May. This is despite changing my old SIM for a new one. I now have two APNs . With vodafone mms, with the settings given at the start of this thread, I cannot send or receive pictures. With vodafone UK contract checked I can send and receive pictures but not videos even when they are below the 300k message size I have as my default. I am sort of resigned to this by now, but on the few occasions when some one sends me a video which will not download I still find it very irritating. Any suggestions?

Re: HTC wildfire can't download MMS

Hi all

I've just ran a few tests with a HTC Wildfire to try and replicate the issues you state you've encountered with MMS. I had no such issues in sending, or receiving pictures or videos. The software version of the device I was using was 1.14.405.2, which had been recently updated.

I'd suggest you check to see if there's an update for your devices, as this may well fix the issue. The version it was updated from was 1.25.405.1.

To check your software version:

From the Home Screen select Menu > About phone > software version

To check for updates:

From the Home Screen select Menu > About phone >System Software Updates > Check now

If there is an update available, I strongly suggest you have a full battery, and are connected to Wi-Fi, or have a good 3G signal before doing this.

If you're still having issues after trying this, please let me know, along with your software versions.

Regards

Re: HTC wildfire cant download MMS

Are we any closer to finding a fix for this? I found this thread whist searching for a solution as I have the same problem - MMS messages cannot be sent or received, failure report says generic network error.

I have checked and double checked all the settings, my handset has software version 2.24.161.2

Re: HTC wildfire cant download MMS

Hi hoochie,

I have done a bit of research into this for you and there are a few people online with the similar issue and from what I can see there are a few things that you can do to rectify this issue.

Can you confirm if you have tried the following;

Download and use a 3rd party messaging app called handcent?

Uninstall any Task Killer applications?

Turn off WIFI?

Factory Reset?

If you can let me know if any of the above make a difference we will be able to assist you further.

Re: HTC wildfire cant download MMS

Download and use a 3rd party messaging app called handcent?  Already using handcent as my primary messaging app.

Uninstall any Task Killer applications? Don't have any.

Turn off WIFI? WiFi was and is off.

Factory Reset? Last resort, what would I lose?

Well I managed to download an MMS and I even managed to send one but I'm not sure how I did it. I was switching between APN's but I suspect it had something to do with me manually launching mobile internet before attempting MMS. Shouldn't the browser launch automatically? Funny thing is that handcent wouldn't recognise the incoming MMS message any more, I had to use standard message system to extract it.

Re: HTC wildfire cant download MMS

Right i thought i would nip on and pass on what i no

When you gat a upgrade or a new contract MMS is switched off and the only department that can turn this on is secound line tecnical

Now with out that on you will get Downloading or unable to down load or other messages depending on the app i had this on my phone and tryed every which way.

James might be able to look in to and make sure it is switched on but he will not be able to as Vodafone need it on file that you reqested it

Now even if you asked sales at the time of getting your phone it still will be turn off

Just a road to check this is a offcom rule that Vodafone agreed to

Re: HTC wildfire cant download MMS

Hey hoochie,

Northern-dj could be right here. I've sent an email to your registered address. Please reply to that email and we'll be in touch.

In the meantime, to answer your question; if you factory reset, you'll have an 'out-of-the-box' handset and you'll lose all your applications and photos, messages etc.

You can overcome this with third party applications or 'drag and drop' solutions via USB. Any downloaded and 'paid for' applications are saved to your Google account and these can be downloaded again free of any charges.

Cheers,

Lee
