Htc Hd2 - Mp3 Stopping After 3 Seconds? Fix Guide

Hi all,

Moderator can you sticky (Pin) this so it doesn't get buried.

We all have the issue that when we add our own MP3's to the Storage Card, the Manila 2.5 Audio Player throws up a Microsoft Error Report, and the end result is none of your MP3's play for more than a couple of seconds.

Alot of people have suggested that maybe it's how you format your memory card or how you copy your files across. None of this is causing the fault, just the ID tag.

The htc media player/audio tab/(audiomanager_eng) seems to be only reliable with mp3's using ID3 version 2.4 UTF-8 type tags.

Your MP3's can vary, and most media players can handle different types, but we need to convert them all to the same type.

I didnt check regarding how you format your SD card (on phone or oc), but basically just use the utility in the HD2 to save any issues.

Ramble over... to the fix...

STEP 1: Format SD Card using format utility in HD2 Start/Tools.

STEP 1A: Go into Start>File Explorer>Application Data>HTC>AudioManager...

STEP 1B: Rename AudioManager_eng.vol file (This deletes index file, and forces re-indexing when you add your mp3's later )

STEP 2: Download MP3TAG http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html

STEP 3: In MP3TAG goto Tools>Options>Tags>Mp3>Write select ID3v2.4 UTF-8

STEP 4: Add music folder to the list in software and highlight them all.

STEP 5: Right-Click on list and select Save Tag, this will convert all files and takes a while to complete. You can close MP3TAG now if you like.

STEP 6: Connect your HD2 to your PC. Create a folder on your SD Card (any name you like)

STEP 7: Copy the folder of MP3's you have converted to your SD card.

STEP 8: When

NOTE: You can copy these across any way you like. Activesync can convert files, but this doesnt effect the ID tag. You can also use windows media player to sync files to your SD card, but this will create it's on folders. I tried both ways and both work fine.

Hope this mini guide works for you.

Good Luck

Htc Hd2 - Mp3 Stopping After 3 Seconds? Fix Guide

STEP 8: When you have copied the mp3's to your HD2, in the Audio player menu select Update Album art>All Songs.

Everything should work fine, but if songs don't appear immediately, tilt your phone into landscape mode and you can access everything... takes a short while for the audio player to display mp3's in portrait mode.

No problem. Thanks must mainly goto the members of XDA Developers forum, which mentioned converting the tag. But, I just investigated that hypothese like how you copy the files across to the HD2 had nothing to do with the 2-second issue. Everyone has this fault, but no-one has given an easy procedure to fix it. Happy to help.

Htc Hd2 - Mp3 Stopping After 3 Seconds? Fix Guide

I decided not to bother to format the microsd card or ###### about with the library files - I installed MP3TAG on the computer and connected the HTC Leo HD2, adding my phone's music files to MP3TAG directly.

Go to File > Add Directory, and add the HTC Leo's music directory. It took a little while to add all the songs.

Go to Tools > Options > Tags > Mpeg > deselect ID3v1 and APEv2 > set ID3v2.4 UTF-8. Click OK to save.

Press CTRL + A to select all.

Go to File > Save Tag.

After a long time of saving, it succeeded with one file write failure. I then disconnected and found the music files played fine in the music player. No doubt when I come across the one file that did not write successfully, the damn thing will fall apart again!!
