Hi, I have a problem with my HTC Wildfire only intermittently receiving POP3 & Gmail emails. Seems to be sending ok. Any suggestions ?

Please can you advise me if this is happening on the network for example 3G or is this also happening on WiFi?

As you can receive the emails albeit intermittently this shows that the APN settings are correct as well as the email account settings.

To check if this is a network issue please can you take a look at our Network Issues thread and post your results back here.

Hi DaveCD, the problem appears to be on 3G, my area coverage is shown as variable. No one to swap sim card with unfortunately.

Can I ask if you are having this issue in all locations or just whilst you are at home?

Also, what is the postcode of where this is happening?

Do you have the same issue if the phone is set to 2G only?

Do you have the phone set to automatically check for new emails?

Do you get any error messages?

If you can let me know the above I will be able to look at this further for you.

Hi, issue seems to be at all locations. I am at GU24 0HQ. Seems to be a problem regardless of settings. Set to receive automatically & no error messages.

Thanks for your reply. I've checked the network in your local area and there are currently no faults or planned maintenance listed and the 3G coverage does show as variable. Just to double check do you have the same issues when connecting via 2G or WiFi?

Also, have you tried deleting the e-mail accounts and then re-adding them in your e-mail settings to see if this makes a difference? What other POP3 accounts are you using other than GMail?

Hi, the problem does seem to be related to where i am located. 2G & WiFi don't appear to make much difference to the issue. I have a POP3 account via my ISP which is reacting in the same way. Its not the end of the world, just irritating.

Can you confirm which version of firmware you are currently running?

Have you checked for any updates as this could be something that is resolved in any later updates if available.

Hi,  am using Android 2.3.5, software 2.14.161.1.  I put a major update on recently, nothing more recent showing.

I would look at trying to update your device to version 2.24.161.2 as this is the latest version available for your handset.

Give this a go and let me know if you notice any difference in the email performance.

I think you are actually on the latest update and there has been a little confusion around the devices, in the opening post you said you have the HTC Wildfire however from the software it look s like you are using the Wildfire S.

However, looking back across the thread I can see that you have mentioned that the issue seems to be related to where you are, could you elaborate on this for me?

Hi, sorry for delay, been away. It is a Wildfire S, seems to be receiving much better away from the home area.
