Keeping The Sensation or Sending it Back?

OK. So for those that preordered the Sensation and got them sent out last Thursday for delivery on Friday it's crunch time. Your 7 days are almost up and reading these posts there are more than a few 'teething' problems apparent on this handset.

So who is keeping theirs and who is sending theirs back?

I for one can't decide. I'm moving to Vodafone from O2 after 3 years of iPhone with everything unlimited that I use (SMS and Data) for £15 a month sim only and been very happy with it but fancy a change my old 3G is getting slow and old so time to change. Moving to Vodafone purely as I get a deal through work that makes the plans very attractive.

So why am I indecisive? My main concern is that I am used to using around 100 to 150mb of data a month total and that includes daily emails web browsing and occasional youtube etc. Since getting the sensation I've used over 250mb of data in a week heading quickly to be over my 750mb allowance at a rate of knots. I've had all the syncs etc turned down and avoided using it when not in a wifi area but it just feels like it's running away with my data and I'm not using my phone any more than usual.

Second thing is the bugs on this device are knocking my confidence in it, if I'm stuck with this for 2 years I need something reliable. So far I have experienced:

  • Being unable to watch any video of any type either online or self recorded, fixed that by removing the battery.
  • Had the handset switch off when taking a photo.
  • Had it reboot on its own on atleast 2 occasions.
  • There is a tiny mark on the screen that I suspect is a bit of dust it's been there since I got it and it can be seen when the phone is off. I thought I could live with it but I find myself trying to wipe it away when using the screen.
  • Wifi falls off when using the device in landscape with my hands around the edges. This causes interruption to videos and browsing.
  • Had the keypad for making calls jam up, meaning I couldn't type in numbers.
  • My email wouldn't authenticate when it was set up and worked fine before and could still get the same mail address on my iPhone.

I'm sure most of these can be taken care of by HTC with a software update but I'm most concerned about the WiFi dropping in landscape as this is how I use it in the house to watch videos etc.

Thirdly Vodafone got my account set up wrong and had the wrong data allowance set up. A call to 191 today, I think has that fixed already.

I was almost decided to keep the phone or atleast get an exchange to fix the dust in the screen issue and just use my O2 sim in it to give me unlimited data but now I've read about the WiFi issue, I though it was just my router having problems but apparently not.

So, anyone else in a state of indecisiveness or just me? Or are you sending it back, or had a few niggles but keeping it anyway?

Re: Keeping The Sensation or Sending it Back?

Like you, I am currently undecided and, as you point out, tomorrow is the day - I quite like the phone, but I too am seeing "issues" which do not appear on my Desire HD, now in use by SWMBO.  I also think that a software upgrade will sort out most minor niggles but, again as you say, I'm not sure I want to be stuck with it for 2 years.

Maurice.

Have to be honest with you. I've been using my Sensation pretty heavily all week (particularly at home on WiFi) and have experienced none of the problems you describe. Maybe you just got a duff unit?

Re: Keeping The Sensation or Sending it Back?

I also came to VF from O2/iPhone and I had some of the same issues as the OP, but battery llfe and charging problems were major issues for me. Yes, I could have got a replacement phone or battery and an update may have sorted out the other bugs but I rely on my phone too much and I just lost confidence in it, so it went back.

Oh, I also had account problems too - VF set me up with 2 accounts, got one cancelled and the remaining one was on 24 months instead of 18. Had to show them my order confirmation email in the store to prove the price plan I'd ordered!
