Major Memory Issues With HTC Wildfire S

Hi there, hope somebody can help with this problem.

My handset (HTC Wildfire S) has been gradually getting more and more memory probelms.  At first i was just unable to download apps despite my memory showing it had plently space for it.  Then i was told there was "not enough space to open application" whenever i tried to open my picture gallery or any of my 2 music files.  Now i am regularly told my phone does not have enough space to even open a text message, meaning i have to restart it around 4 or 5 times a day just to read my texts.

I have removed all photos and videos from my phone (by connecting the phone to my computer since i cant do it on my actual phone), deleting all my messages (which was also a nightmare as the phone doesn't seem to be able to delete multiple messages at a time) and have taken all apps off the phone except Facebook and Twitter, as i use them frequently.  I tried to move things to my SD Card, as it has nothing on it, but whenever i go to the settings the button for 'Move to SD Card' is always blacked out so i cant select this option.

Any ideas?  I'll try anything as just now my phone is basically unable to do anything.

Re: Major Memory Issues With HTC Wildfire S

Hi Potterson

To help with the memory management on your phone please can you try the following;

1) Uninstalling all apps updates and third party apps to clear their caches.

2) Reinstall/update only the ones that are needed/used, to minimise this problem re-occurring in the future.

3) Disable “Automatic update” in Android market for all applications under “My Apps”.

If you still need better memory management then you can use a tool called "disk usage" to see what is using most memory. (This can be found in the Market Place)

One example of a file using a lot of internal memory is "Facebook for HTC sense", once an exchange account has been added.

The memory that this app uses can be regained by removing the Facebook account from the HTC friend stream and clearing data (clear cache) from the “Facebook for HTC sense” application.

Facebook will still work with no problems.

Give this a go and let me know how you get on.

HTC Wildfire S Internal Memory Issues

As invited by @VodafoneUK on TWitter to join this forum, I see to my dismay that internal memory problems are commonplace with this model of phone. After only 2 weeks of ownership, I am having to resign myself to 2 years of being unable to use the very apps that made me switch from my old (but mostly trusty) BlackBerry. Disappointment is putting it mildly...

I am also communicating with HTC technical support as not even the calendar is synchronising (either automatically or manually) - after an initial false sense of optimism caused by a flurry of update during the first couple of days.

As a new Android user I don't have the benefit of previous experience with this OS to draw on and would appreciate any suggestions for 'newbies'.

Re: HTC Wildfire S Internal Memory Issues

Hi LouiseBJ

Thank you for your post and a very warm welcome to the eForum.:smileyhappy:

Please can you let me know if you have tried the steps above posted by James?

To free up some of the memory on your device it may be worth checking your contacts are synchromised and then stored on your SIM.

Please can you ensure you are usingthe latest software for your device and let me know if this has managed to synchronise your calendar.

Many Thanks

Re: HTC Wildfire S Internal Memory Issues

Hi DaveCD

Between following James' suggestions and those of HTC's support team, I'm pleased to say that enough internal memory has been freed up and my Calendar is now synching - both ways!! :smileyhappy:

The next test will be when there are updates to install as the phone hasn't had enough memory to do that lately - but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it!

I appreciate your help and the prompt tweeted responses. It's nice to find out about the forum if I have questions in future.

Thanks again

Kind regards

LouiseBJ

Re: Major Memory Issues With HTC Wildfire S

Hi

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one being driven bonkers by the memory issues on this phone. For example I orginally had my email account to the mail app so that with one click i could see my emails. I did this no thanks to the staff in the vodaphone shop and had to find a solution on-line. Anyway, it worked fine for a year, then suddenly stopped working and has not worked now for about 5 months. I bought this phone for 2 reasons to access apps, and to quickly access emails on the go. (I know I can access it via my network app but that requires a lot mucking around and delays). Roll on May when I can get  new phone....and I can tell you it wont be another one of these!

I have just tried the suggestions of freeing up space from the HTC Facebook App I will see whether I can get updates, view photos, access messages and apps on the phone without it sending me low memory messages.

However, I thought I should tell you how to delete bunches of text messages in one go. Go into your messages app. Click on the second icon (3 horizonal lines) at the bottom of the screen. Click Delete option.Click the crosses next to the message to select all the messages linked to that individual for that 'conversation'. This means that all the messages that were sent to that indivual are deleted in one go, HTC call it a 'thread'.You can do as many as you like. Click on the delete option again (it wil have the number of message threads selected for deletion in brackets). It will then delete them. I hope this helps. Good luck with your phone.

Re: Major Memory Issues With HTC Wildfire S

Another really disappointed HTC owner here, for the same reasons.

I have researched into ways to improve memory and have  - amongst other adjustments recommended -  removed the Facebook app (can't remember if it was a Vodafone or HTC app) and I don't download music or anything like that. I have barely anything on my Wildfire now, as it struggles to cope with anything!

I've owned this phone for about 15 months now, and the battery has got to a point of not even lasting a day. I don't even bother using it to go on the internet as connecting it uses too much juice.

I fail to get reception in numerous areas, including areas that should get good indoor coverage on Vodafone according to the coverage map. We've rung Vodafone and adjusted a setting but no improvement.

The phone also won't come off standby many times, it's almost as if it can't cope with what it's trying to do.

It also sometimes fails to receive calls, despite me knowing it has signal, as I discovered today.

I'm stuck with this unsmart phone till June 29th 2013. I'm sorely tempted to start another contract just to get a better phone.

My first and last HTC, although it is very good at waking me up in the morning with it's alarm function, yes-  that's one thing it can cope with.

Re: Major Memory Issues With HTC Wildfire S

Hi I have read numeous messages re the Memory issues and tried each and everyone of the tips, each to no avail, my problem is that no apps can be moved to SD card, so whilst having 1.8GB of space I am unable to load any further apps. Vodafone are unable to help because they do not support HTC or so I am told. HTC only advice is what is on the Forum, therefore like other users I have a phone which is next to useless. Would I use Vodafone and HTC again, VERY UNLIKELY. I feel I have been sold a pup, So do I cut my losses and pay a further 13/14 months on my contract and also buy another phone.

Re: Major Memory Issues With HTC Wildfire S

Hi scrowe,

Thank you for your post here.

Unfortunately as this is how the handset has been made we are restricted by what we can do in these instances other than what has already been mentioned earlier in this thread.

As HTC have also advised you the same as what has already been mentioned in this thread then there is very little else that we can advise other than remove any non essential apps that you have downloaded.

In regards to you being told that we don’t support HTC phones, this is not correct and even when a handset has become end of life we will still support a device and also honour the warranty of the device.

Unfortunately although we still support the phones, if the manufacturer are saying there is nothing that they can do then we can only follow what they say.

Also, we are unable to change the phone to a different model once you are out of the 7 day cooling off period.

I’m sorry that this is not what you were hoping to hear unfortunately there is nothing more that we can advise.

James
