New phone New sim no signal!

I received my new Htc one x yesterday complete with a new sim.  Since putting the sim into the phone I have had a constant no signal sign on the screen.  My old phone with old sim(nokia n8) still has a signal.  It is really frustrating! What can do to get a signal on my new phone?

New phone now has signal.  Finally found the bit online where you get your number transferred to your new sim. 

Why does the info with the sim state: "Just insert your vodafone SIM into your brand new device."

No mention of the online process required!

Still phone looks great and works well..At the mo!
