Problem with saving ringtones since ICS

Hello,

I'm a bit of an old hand on the voda forums .... BB Storm 2 and then a Sensation.  Hadn't logged on for a while and it looks like I'll appear as a newcomer.  I can generally sort out most phone problems on my own and even sometimes help other people sort out their problems ... but now I have a problem I'd like to share .... see if anybody has experienced it ... and if they resolved it.

ICS update went fine - no problems.  Battery life, response times?  All acceptable.  Oh yeah, I started getting texts each time the phone connected to bluetooth in the car.  I unpaired it, re-paired it and all OK.

I made a couple of mp3 ringtones of my own and imported a ringtone from a genuine website and they have been fine for several months ... about a week after I got the phone which was the day it came out!

So, install ICS, set my own ringtone and message notification and all is fine.  Turned the phone off at night, turned it on the next morning .... about an hour later I realised it had gone to the 'default' ringtone and notifications.  I've taken the battery out/in and the same.  I've created my own sound profile (scene?) and still the same.  Nothing I do seems to allow me to keep my own sounds after a power off/on.

Any ideas anybody??

Re: Problem with saving ringtones since ICS

Hi storm2,

Hmmmm, this is a strange one however can I ask if the theme or sounds are stored on the phone memory or the memory card?

If they are stored on the memory card, are you able to put them on the phone memory to see if this makes a difference?

Also I would un-mount and remount the SD card to see if it is a problem with the phone reading the memory card on boot up.

Give this a go and let me know how you get on.

James

Hi James,

The SD card thing passed through my head just before I posted.  I had a very quick look and it didn't look like the ringtones were on the sd card .... but when I have a few minutes peace and quiet I'll look at it again and get back to you on this forum.

Bye for now.

Re: Problem with saving ringtones since ICS

Hello James,

First of all I dismounted and mounted the sd card and it made no difference.

Secondly I connected the phone to my PC and sure enough, my own ringtones/notification sounds are on the SD card.

For the life of me I can't see how I either tell the phone to look on the sd card for the ringtones/sounds .... or move them to somewhere on the phone where other ringtones/sounds are.

Your advice much appreciated.

Phil

Re: Problem with saving ringtones since ICS

Hi Storm2

Thanks for your post here. From what I have read, the phone is not waiting for the SD card to mount before it checks for the path of specified ringtone file paths. As such, it can’t find the custom directory that you have specified and defaults them to the default ringtones.

I’ve found a couple of threads that discuss this, one in particular discuss using different file paths for storing your ringtones on the SD Card.

Alternatively, is there a way that you could store the ringtone files on the phone itself? That way the phone will find the file and assign the custom settings on start up.

Here are the two threads I found

Thread One

Thread Two

Thanks

Wayne
