So it should stop overheating once the update is installed?
Just updated this weekend but I'm still overly cautious seeing as last time it overheated I couldn't even pick it up =/

 That sound's more like a faulty phone / battery.

Yep sounds faulty. It should never get so hot that you can't handle it. I would get it replaced.
