Re: S-OFF for Sensation

The Vodafone boot animation can be removed by flashing a new one or flashing a ROM that has new ones in it. Simple to do

Re: S-OFF for Sensation

As another Android virgin, what are the risks in doing this?  Can you put the Vodafone one back on if you need to?

Re: S-OFF for Sensation

Any pointers to a "S-OFF for Dummies" guide?

New to Android, understand the concept but would prefer a crib sheet rather than flounder around in the dark.....

Re: S-OFF for Sensation

Android n00b question - I presume following the XDA steps to get S-OFF will delete everything from the SD card?

Re: S-OFF for Sensation

S-OFF won't format your SDcard, but you will lose data on your phone if you wipe. Be sure to do a backup if you want to keep your SMS etc.

Re: S-OFF for Sensation

[ Edited ]

Just get Titanium Backup from the Market - use the free version - it does the job

Having said that, using the guide to get S-OFF doesn't touch ANYTHING on the phone. Only flashing a new ROM will wipe all your data. Use Titanium to backup stuff you want to carry over to your new ROM. Otherwise, just make a backup of your existing ROM before flashing a new one

ROM: 3.14.401.31 (JRO03C)
HBOOT: 1.39.0000 | Recovery: Stock

Re: S-OFF for Sensation

I didn't bother with a backup program.  After flashing the phone and reconnecting Google and HTC Sense accounts, all my apps got restored on first loading market, and unexpectedly all my SMS messages gradually restored automatically (although I am not sure whether this was backed up up by Google or HTC Sense).  The EU ROM correctly detected all APN Internet settings for Vodafone including all the correct MMS settings.

If you are flashing to stock unbranded ROM, you can ignore many of the steps that some of the guides list.  First follow the steps for obtaining S-Off (via Revolutionary).  After that don't bother with ENG-HBOOT, clockwork, or anything like that.  All you need to do is acquire SuperCID by using the Android SDK tools from google.http://developer.android.com/sdk/  Then you can flash the latest Euro Stock ROM which you can download here.  All the information you need is listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033 .  Just remember to only do S-OFF (Revolutionary), SuperCID, and Stock ROM flash.  This method is best since it makes the minimal amount of changes required, resulting in a configuration which very closely matches an unbranded phone off the shelf.

Re: S-OFF for Sensation

I personally wouldn't ignore the flashing of Clockwork Recovery personally as it can help you out of a situation. Also there isn't an actual need to wipe at all, just wipe the cache and davlik before flashing your SenseUI ROM of choice.

Looking at it, you can return back to stock quite easily now the RUU is available...
