Still having signal problems

I bought my sisters upgrade phone from her, an HTC Desire Z and a sim only plan, about two weeks ago, but i seem to be having poor signal issues, sometimes i experience a limited service message, this is only temporary and soon disapears when you unlock the phone, but also some of my calls are dropped about 50% of the time, my postcode is PO198AZ, i only use the GSM mode as to conserve battery, i know some other people have had issues too, just wondering if anyone can help me out, the reason i got rid of my last contract and moved back to Vodafone was purely for the better signal, are all HTC phones like this, i had an Xperia (HTC Made) a few years back on Vodafone and i had to send that back because of poor signal or none at all.

Many thanks

Paul

Re: Still having signal problems

[ Edited ]

Hi paulbriant,

At first glance, all seems fine, with a strong layer to 2G coverage over the area, so I looked a little closer, and can see that one of the local cells is undergoing some maintenance.

The cell 3011 is currently undergoing work (ref 2177952) which may have affected the cell serving your location even without being your main serving cell as the other cells all fight to take up the excess demand.

It's always worth keeping an eye on our faults board as a good way to keep up to date on any site issues which may occur!

If this continues once the issue is resolved, please let us know and we'll investigate further.

Dave

Re: Still having signal problems

Well my signal is showing at 3-4 bars constantly, but nearly every time i make a voice call over gsm the call is dropped, i made aphone call earlier and the call was dropped twice in 5 minutes, i hear there are other members on this forum who also have been having trouble with the Desire Z signal, i installed an app called no signal, but that only picked up places out in the sticks that i didnt have any coverage and this was only for about 2mins max, so its not the signal dying completely, but on numerous occasions the calls are just dropped, and this is from a place that shows 5 stars for 3G and GSM

Re: Still having signal problems

Hi paulbriant

I am sorry to see that this is still causing you issues.

I have a few questions / suggestions, and this will help to pinpoint where the issue lies.

1. If you can put the SIM card into another handset and try to make a call? does this work ok or not?

2. Does the phone work ok outside of this area?

3. Does anyone else on Vodafone have the same issue?

If you can answer the above, that would be fantastic.

Thanks

Martin

Re: Still having signal problems

I tried the sim in my Nokia E63, and it still happens, but this time the signal went from 6 bars to 1, then dropped the call and i was greeted with connection error, i havent made a call outside of the area to test this, and my mother and sister have also had some, although not as much as me disruption with the network, the signal seems to go from full signal to none, quite often on the nokia, but not as much on the Desire Z.

Re: Still having signal problems

Hi paulbriant,

Thanks for posting, I can appreciate how frustrating this issue must be.

I've taken a look at site 3011 and it looks to be working fine now. I've checked the case that Dave mentioned earlier and can see that an engineer went out to the site yesterday and performed some maintenence.

If you are still experiencing issues, can you try switching your phone to 3G mode and making a call to see if that makes a difference. Once you've done that, switch back to 2G only mode and make another call. Let me know if you're still having issues.

Re: Still having signal problems

Well i made a call when i had a two bar HSDPA signal, and the line was clear and the caller sounded loud, i switched back to GSM with 4 bars of signal and made a call, it was quieter and the call was muffled, switched back to 3G and the call was fine again, switched back to GSM and the call disconnected, but did work the second time (not a long call), but wasnt as loud as it was over 3G, i also made a call earlier today over GSM about 20 miles from my house and that sounded great and didnt drop.

Thanks

Re: Still having signal problems

Any news yet? i'm quite concerned as to whether it is the phone or the signal, im hoping for the latter, but have had problems in the past with HTC signal trouble, just want to know either way

Thanks

Re: Still having signal problems

Hi, i made a few calls today, about 18 miles from my postcode over GSM, and the calls were fine, i tried at home today and have successfully completed 4 calls with no crackes, hiss, or dropping of the calls, so fingers crossed the problem cell tower 3011 is alive and well !!

Re: Still having signal problems

I am also having all the above problems and tried all the above suggestions and also had the sim changed, changed to GSM only and I am STILL having signal problems. Constantly showing limited connectivity. I have even checked the faults board and nothing going on in my area. I have had this contract 3 weeks and the first week there were no problems whatsoever but the past two weeks becoming a nightmare. How can this be resolved as I have a 24month contract!!

Please help.

Re: Still having signal problems

Hi wkdroses23,

I was a little confused as to the location at first as paulbriant's area is now resolved and operating successfully, until i realised that you were in a completely different location.

The issue in the BL6 area is actually covered in two threads on the forum:

Bolton/Horwich BL6

No mobile data throughput it Horwich Blackrod BL6 Bolton

This has also been added to the faults board here.

Please check this for any updates regarding the situation.
