Touch Pro 2 - Will The Windows Mobile 6.5 Update Wipe My Contacts And Calendar?

I've now had my TP2 for nearly a year and have decided to do the VF software upgrade which I believe installs WinMob 6.5. However, does this action wipe all my contacts and calendar? I'm not so concerned about e-mails as I presume they'll all stay as normal in Thunderbird on my PC.

I've had a look around and read about backing up/transferring to Outlook, which I have on my PC but don't really use. Or can I backup/transfer to my memory card, and if so, how do I do that? When I connect the phone to my PC I can't then 'see' the memory card to can't transfer anything to it via WinExp on my PC.

Assistance would be appreciated.

Hi DLA17

You will need to back up your information before you action the update. Take a look at the Full Back Up procedure, where you will also find full instructions on how to do this.

If you encounter any further issues, let me know.

Touch Pro 2 - Will The Windows Mobile 6.5 Update Wipe My Contacts And Calendar?

Thanks for the info but I've tried ActiveSync without success.

Firstly, the boxes I'd want are greyed out, and I also get a message saying Outlook isn't installed. Well I've already got Outlook on my PC and I don't see the relevance of having it on my phone, if that was possible.

Is there a way that I can save my contacts and calendar on the memory card, and then simply move them back once I've got WinMob 6.5 installed?

Touch Pro 2 - Will The Windows Mobile 6.5 Update Wipe My Contacts And Calendar?

Ok, tried connecting phone and PC again and everything appeared to work ok, however................... couldn't find anything on Outlook.

Did a bit of fiddling about and first got an error message about a problem with Outlook and a Support Code 85010014.

Did another bit of fiddling, and now got another error message about a wrong profile with Outlook, and another Support Code 8503001f.

I basically don't use Outlook so although I did set it up at one time, I don't have a clue about profiles etc! Why does everything have to be so complicated when Microsoft and Windows are involved?? Is this maybe why I stayed with Nokia and Symbian for so long??

Help would be appreciated!

Tried to edit my last post but when I clicked the "edit" button I got a message telling me that I wasn't allowed!!

Ok, problem seems to have been resolved, as I've found my contacts and calendar in the "personal folders" on my Outlook.

For the benefit of anybody else who might be having a similar problem, I Googled the 2nd Support Code and got the solution there. Basically, disconnected the phone from my PC, deleted the device in ActiveSync then reconnected the phone and let ActiveSync find it again, and everything worked!!

Install Microsoft MyPhone and select what you want to backup http://myphone.microsoft.com/mkweb/Install.po?mkt=en-GB

Or else use Pim backup http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1806
