Unlocked Bootloader

[ Edited ]

Hi, Now that HTC has announced that the locked Bootloader policy has been revoked and that as of August they will begin to retroactively unlock their phones, when will Vodafone pass this process onto their customers, the ones that want to that is.

This is important to only a small percentage of your customers yet that percentage is still quite valuable to a company, and we have seen the problems that companies get into that do not take notice of their customer base.

The HTC Sensation is a excellent phone with great potential on the custom modding scene like XDA who's Dev's invariably solve many problems that sometimes the carriers and the companies never get around to solving due to time constraints, new phones and financial reasons.

Please answer this thread with information not platitudes or redirection to the policies that are printed here http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/About-the-Community-and-Latest/Frequently-asked-questions-Firmware/t.... these are not policies just general misdirections that if you wish could be dissected one by one as being incorrect and condescending to people who are knowledgable. What is replied here will be forwarded to the XDA-Developers Forum to allow further people to ascertain the policies of Vodafone with regards to HTC policies regarding hardware owned by your customers.

Also will you confirm that any update supplied by HTC's on their site unless it is Vodafone specific will not be usable on a Vodafone branded phone and that any update for Vodafone branded Sensation's would have to be carrier specific for either download or OTA.

Re: Unlocked Bootloader

I'll confirm now that an update on HTCs website will NOT be applicable to a Vodafone-branded handset. Vodafone UK customers can only get updates which are x.xx.161.x
HTC One X (S720e)
ROM: 3.14.401.31 (JRO03C)
HBOOT: 1.39.0000 | Recovery: Stock
Radio: 5.1204.162.29 | Kernel: Stock

Bootloaders unlocked by HTC, but will Vodafone allow it?

I have been speaking to a guy on the HTC support chat. He said that all HTC devices with a locked bootloader, instead of just the Sensation, will be unlocked. True or not, I just want to ask:

Will Vodafone allow this? Vodafone usually controls the updates phones recieve if they are branded. So in theory, if they didn't want to unlocking bootloaders, they could just stop the update.

I really hope this won't happen, but I have a feeling it will. Can any of the Vodafone staff answer this?

Re: Bootloaders unlocked by HTC, but will Vodafone allow it?

Hi all,

I do not have any information concerning this subject.

As this is closely related to the updating of the handsets firmware/software, you may find our Firmware FAQ thread contains some useful information.

Any changes made will be announced as new firmware becomes available.

Regards
