hi, my stock firmware is 1.5 how can i get it to 1.6 to apply the 2.2.1 update please advise

There used to be a copy of the VF 1.6 ROM on XDA forums, I used it myself back when the 1.6 roll out was happening.

Basically you will need to find that file, manually flash it and then the 2.2.1 OTA update should push through.....

Have a search around over at XDA. - Neoblade may well be able to help you here......

i have  a problem - the first update was ok, but when i try the second update in the middle of installation i receve this message -  assert failed: apply_patch_check (''/system/framework/ext.odex''. a41b819167e76e6ob40a1f808873acoe374fd6fd''  E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip (Status 7) Installation abored      -     Any sugestion? i have a Htc Magic 32B Vodafone with 1.6 original os

I would download the update file again, sounds like a corrupted zip file. Maybe backup the sd card contents, reformat the card, then copy the freshly downloaded update.zip file over and try again...

ok i reformat the card, i put the first update.zip it was ok, and after i erase the first update and i put the second update.zip (42.5mb), but the same problem the same error with something - framework, error 7 - i dont understand why dont work, is just a simple update .... maybe need to change something inside  the second update.zip,a file, a name, or need some program installed  ???

hagisbasheruk, if you know how to update htc magic why don't help us ? not all people from here are experts in android and other things, tell as how to fix the update to 2.2.1, is to hard to explain?

@deejay: Re-Download the 2 files again. Format the SDCard and try the update again as it sounds like it might have been damaged.

As for the 1.6 OTA, the file is still there on XDA if people have the 1.5 ROM.

Please note that I have not tried this personally! There was another direct link... And I'm pretty sure I have the 1.6 OTA files downloaded on my computer for safe keeping as well if anyone wants that instead.

thx, i try it again but the same problem, is possible the second update.zip have a problem ore a damage inside de zip ? but i don t understand what is the problem with the original update who i recive via wi+fi, the same problem ...

When pressing Home & Power for the 2nd file, have you tried re-flashing it again? If I get some time I'll see if I can dig something up but its difficult when I don't have the phone and running a little low on time thesedays

yes i try reflashing the second update bit the same error, i try 10 times one after one but nothing, maybe i need to change something inside the second update, a file, a name, a setting , is possible ?

Hi there, I have HTC Magic with Android 1.5 and I really want to update it to 1.6 or to 2.1/2.2 though I do not know much about Android.... Could somebody please explain how to update my Android understandably for an Androi beginner????

So i really need to look into things before posting... but for those still looking and trying to get android 2.x ect...

look on page 2 of this thread for the update files, after the reboot to recovery, when you see the triangle and phone picture, press the power button AND HOME button at the same time again. this will let you see the options.

option two is to run update.zip

I've just sparked up my old Magic, and it won't pick up the OTA update, and the manual update process doesn't work (downloaded the files, reformat memory card, unmount, copy 1st file to card, change name to update.zip, insert into phone and reboot with Home+power pressed.

I get a /!\ screen, and no response from any key press.  Tried it a few times now with different memory cards

Can vodafone push the update OTA if they know a few detail, IMEI etc?
