Wifi Problem

Hi,

Having looked through lots of threads here I have found that many people are experiencing the same problem with wifi;

They (like me) are able to connect perfectly to their hub, a DHCP IP address is given out and all looks fine. Yet no data is transmitted and connections to mail and web just time out. I think thats sums it up.

The support suggestions here seem to be to turn of security and so on to try and get it to work. People have security enabled for a very good reason and asking people to do this for a solution is not acceptable. We have many other wifi devices and downgrading them to no security to get the Margic to work is not going to happen.

Due to the numbers of people with he same issue it is very clear there is an issue with the HTC itself. Can you confirm that this as been recognised as such and that a solution is being actively investigated, rather than putting it down to a user error or issue.

Thanks.

Wifi Problem

I didn't have any problems connecting to my Wifi router. It's using WEP security (not as good as WPA, but my Wii doesn't seem to like WPA) and MAC filtering (which I think is a better security measure than the enhanced encryption offered by WPA). I've been connected for a couple of hours and everything I've used so far has worked nicely, so it looks like my wifi at home is good, I'll check it at work when I'm in the office.
There may be a faulty batch of phones, but I think it's as likely to be a compatibility issue with the phone and particular wifi chips.

A me too here. Connected to my b/g wifi first time - again WEP and MAC filtering. IT works great - esepcially as the voda 3g coverage (no-one elses') is none existant in the bicester metropolis. I used the android beeb app and its great. Saved me a fortune in data charges too as I try every app on the marketplace :-)

Wifi Problem

going to try this suggestion, about just wep, and mac filtering, also lloking to get a wifi extender, see if that helps maybe a dead spot, though cant understand why.

I stood right next to my hub and it still does it so I don't think it is that. I'd be interested to see how you get on with wep though, i've too many wifi things to change so don't really want to go down that route.

Wifi Problem

Hi guys,

Good to hear that many of you do have this working.

Moa - What we really need to do is identify the source of the issue as any specifics we can get from a situation where this is happening speeds up investigation and resolution. Rather than permanently disable security, what we'd be looking for is for you to check for us with no security, and then gradually increase it for us one step at a time and report back what difference that makes. If you can check with WAP, for example, this would enable us to check if what works for others works for yourself. If not, this may suggest a faulty handset and therefore a repair may be in order.

Anything we can rule out is to our advantage with any issue, and rest assured we would never asked anyone to permanently disable security - we appreciate just how important this is.

This forum of users is at least good with the software. And people are reporting wifi issues here also: wifi-issue-with-htc-magic. hopefully they might work it out?

ummm, either I was being dense with BBcodes this morning, or vodafone have removed external linking from the codes.

Meh.

Wifi Problem

I (did) have all security turned off now on my network and it still only works for about 30 seconds.

I have a ZyXEL P-661HW-D1 Wireless router. I have connected about a dozen things to it in the past with no problems, so doubt the issue is with that.

What do vodafone want people to do who have had it near the 14 days from purchase and still have problems with wifi? If VF have no fix for those people having problems, after the 14 days can it still be returned as faulty?

Otherwise we could be stuck with something that can never connect!

Very long shot ... NAT settings? Havent got my Magic (Yet!, comes friday). Have a look on the router config and see if you can set up static NAT.

Another Very long shot.. have you got your magic or router too close to cordless phone base staion? Maybe interfering?

Sounds like you've tried everything else!

Wifi Problem

i have been having exactly the same problems with my wifi. the browser is very very slow (3g is faster) and the market is very slow and times out even though my magic shows it's connected. i have a laptop, nokia n95, nokia n96 and in the past an iphone 3g all connected with no issues at all. has anyone had these problems and found a solution.

in case it makes a difference i have a belkin g plus mimo router with wep security but it makes no difference if i turn off security.

Wifi Problem

Hi All,

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with this. We will of course endeavor to get things sorted for you as quickly as possible.

So that I can actively feed this back could you all provide me with the Firmware version you are running on your HTC Magic and also the routers that you are using, the level of security you have on your router and if you have been able to use it with no encryption enabled. ( I only need information from those who's aren't working)

Thanks

Wayne

Wifi Problem

My wireless router at home is set up with WEP and it works fine. However at work we have WPA2 security and while I can connect to the router it does not download. Both work with my v1620. Does the magic have a problem with WPA2 security. I will see if my router at home supports WPA2 and try it at home to see if my magic struggles with it.

Wifi Problem

For what it's worth, I'm running a Netgear router with WPA2 security and the Magic syncs with it perfectly. No MAC address filtering and router acting as DHCP server.

Wifi Router: ZyXel P-661HW-D1
Security: Tried All; WPA2, WPA, WEP & None.
Problem: Connect under all conditions but no data is sent

Have you updated to the 11/05/2009 ZyXEL firmware? I have not upgraded my 662 as yet but ZyXEL tell me it improves wireless stability.

May give it a gon this evening.

Wifi Problem

I have now got my problem done to the wifi router at work with WPA2 with no mac filtering. Everything works fine apart from when I try to download an app. If I turn wifi off the app downloads immediately with the gprs.
