iPlayer no longer working on 3G

I have Beebplayer and myPlayer which up until 3 weeks ago worked fine over 3G and Vodefone network. Both apps still work fine over Wifi but onver 3G, even when connected at 'H' speed either don't start or play 1 second too fast then 2-3seconds of nothing.

Are Vodafone throttling / restriction access to BBC iPlayer over 3G ?

Do these apps work ok over 3G for anyone else still ?

Re: iPlayer no longer working on 3G

Hi NX3,

Thanks for posting, I can imagine this issue must be rather frustrating. We're definiely not restricting access to iPlayer over 3G, so it's definitely not that.

I notice you mention you've been using Apps to view iPlayer, have you tried accessing via the iPlayer website at all? Also, does this issue happen in one location? Or is it everywhere you go?

Re: iPlayer no longer working on 3G

As Eddy said - iplayer has never worked on the Legend.

As for myplayer - I have that and it works fine on both 3g and wifi - I've just tried it before posting.  I haven't updated it recently though as I read somewhere that somebody was trying to stop access to any other than iplayer and not to update myplayer.  Sorry, can't remember where but I would guess it was on here somewhere.

Re: iPlayer no longer working on 3G

Found the post - I think it has a link to the older "working" version too.

Re: iPlayer no longer working on 3G

Well to answer my own question in parts, I can't get Beebplayer or myPlayer to work still on 3G but fine on wifi. I can't use the BBC app or website directly as even though with Android 2.2 on the Legend we have Flash 10.1 "LITE" the BBC don't suppor it ! Almost every other website videos work natively, not sure why the BBC is restricting access so much.

Anyway skyfire browser in market works for me. It gives a message saying its block at first as a general warning but every lin I tried worked. Also its the direct iplayer streams rather than the Nokia 3G streams that Beebplayer and myPlayer use the quality is much better.

The BBC's support of Android is really poor and restrictive as they are aligning themselves to whatever Adobe says it will support for Flash 10.1 or higher officially. This is most but not all ARM7 cpus, the Legend is ARM6 so will never be supported....sigh.

Re: iPlayer no longer working on 3G

I think it's quite responsible seeing the high data usage involved with iPlayer would take you over your monthly limit within a day of watching a few programmes

Re: iPlayer no longer working on 3G

I've tried to view iPlayer using wifi and the default web browser and going to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer, before I just got an error message saying my phone wasn't supported, now it loads the programmes but when I try to play them it says I need a certain version of flash.

I've tried using the skyfire browser but the video was too large for the screen and never actually played even though I was using wifi.

Just downloaded what I'm guessing is the latest version of myplayer and there are no BBC channels on there.

Re: iPlayer no longer working on 3G

Skybrowser gives up popup saying iplayer isn't supported which I click through. Then when I select a show to view on the normal website I call up then Sky browser menu, hit the video option and it just plays. I've gone this over 3G many times now... its great !
