can someone explain to me what 2g and 3g is one my phone and what it can do?

Its not a silly question, in very basic terms

2G signal provides calls, texts etc

3G provides high speed internet

Your phone is a 3G phone so should be fine with a 3G signal, but if you are having signal issues, you might have been asked or have options on your phone to turn it to 2G only to eliminate an issue.  Most phones do this automatically 

Is there an issue you are having which causes you to ask ?

no issue i just read another post saying they did not have 3g and was wondering what it all meant , thanks for the advice, do you know the answer to my other question about useing some sort of pen to tap the screen as my fingers are a bit on the fat side.?

No the feeling well, you can get them on various sides, ebay sells millions of stylus type products which would fit the job

A friend of mine who also has a wildfire  s says because it is a capactive screen you can only use your fingers ,

could be right to be honest, never really thought it through like that, best to research or speak to htc to confirm

instead of a new thread to ask this thought i would hijack it hope op dont mind why dont my wildfire s show a 3G icon on status bar just a H with arrows ?

H is the abbreviation for HSDPA which should provide a faster browsing experience compared with 3G.
