Found these links on the Huawei Official site today :
As I don't have a G300 yet please advise if this is the long awaited ICS for Vodafone G300's
Hope there might be a lot of happy 'lil bunnies out there if it is.

Nice find! But of the two versions of 4.0 there does anyone know if it's the 05011EEY or the 05011EFA version to use?
I've tried googling those to numbers which seem ot be the only indication of how the two 368MB downloads differ but all roads lead back to this page with apparently no other reference across the internet.
I've looked under "About phone" in Setting on the G300 but there's nothing obvious there that I can see to say which one to use.

Sorry can't help you there. As they are both the same size and released on the same day guess they are much of a muchness. Will await some expert to enlighten us on this one as the difference is only the last three letters EFA or EEY.

Hi, I haven't applied the upgrade yet but just to note that the "EFA" .zip file contains a .PDF file (that rather wondefully says "secret"!) and it says:
Versions can be upgraded
Luckily my recent G300 says it is U8815 V100R001C02B892 so it looks like this may work. If anyone downloads the other file I'd be interested to know if its PDF says something different.

I went for it with the EFA file. After a couple of minutes of "unpacking" I got a green android man and text saying it was formatting /cache and /data that looked a bit worrying but I guess it has to. After that it switched to an animated Vodafone logo for some time then finally made a couple of haptic "buzzes" and sat for quite a lot longer with that same now static graphic on screen. Having applied ICS to an HTC previously I guess this was the "updating apps" stage but only hidden. Finally it appeared with a "welcome screen and an icon to "Start", "Just a sec" appeared for a while ten it got to a screen asking for my Gmail details. It did say "this can take a few minutes" - it did! But in the end "About" is saying 4.0.3 and it looks damned slick!

They're bitwise identical to each other and to the NZ release and the release we've been asking Vodafone to fix for a month or so.
It's a joke. Nothing was escalated or fixed despite :-
Other lovely bugs include:-
ICS slowdowns (memory management?)
Apps not responding
mountpoint issues (defaulting and switching back to internal storage)
no hardware accelerated ui despite dozens of promises captured at http://is.gd/lUIpwC
totally broken dictionary!
...and basically an OS that performs much much worse than ICS on devices with half the power eg the san francisco.
If you roll this half assed effort out OTA then you'll not only have confirmed that you've totally ignored this thread but you'll have a huge backlash of unhappy customers.

one thing i will say, although it doesnt come with it already activated, hardware acceleration is available via an option in the developer options ,
not tried it out yet due to being extremely busy, and this is on the NZ version, havnt installed the uk version (not sure it will let me as im technically already on B936 and even so not sure theres a point),
hope this helps

The links to ICS update both on Huawei site and the Vodafone site have been pulled, and a discrete vail will be drawn over them
Its possible that people power on twitter and facebook has forced the issues with the ICS update, and led too Huawei and Vodafone pulling the links. The next few days will be interesting.

Ok so it appears that the ICS update released on Huawei web site was not supposed to be released to the public. They say its unfinnished code. I as have many others updated to this build as it said it was official release. I would like someone from Vodafone to assure me that when the real release is out that i will be able to still update to the official release. Is it possible to revert back to Gingerbread or am i now stuck on a buggy release. I do not want to root my phone or install CFW. Can we get an official response from vodafone that is not just scripted BS.

A silence decends on the Vodafone site, no answers to customers concerns, a lot of customers will have put faith in Huawei and Vodafone and updated to ICS.They are now left with phones with a substandard firmware, plus features missing from it that were promised, big business really does not have any morality.

The software updates posted to the Huawei site are not final versions and were added in error.
We’re continuing to work with Huawei to address some performance related issues found in the software during our testing process.
As soon as we have concrete timeframes for Huawei’s roll out of the final version, we will let our customers know.

Lets hope there is a quick resolve to this fiasco. Vodafone it is fair to say it's your customers who have tested this substandard update.
It is a fact that a lot of Ascend G300 customers will have upgraded to the ICS firmware, and that customers were blatantly mislead about certain aspects of hardware acceleration, and customers had highlighted issues with other builds of ICS e.g.(B934) long before the escape of the UK build.
Vodafone customers are unsurprisingly seeking assurances that when the full version of the UK ics build is released, the various issues will have been addressed, e.g. dictionary bug, memory management, etc.
The Ascend G300 has been well supported in the UK, and there is no denying that it is technically a brilliant phone for the price.
Vodafone, customers deserve better than this.
