3G SIMs are only for ipads?

Last week I ordered a PAYG 3G SIM to use in my Galaxy Tab: the website said:  "Get flexible internet whenever you need it, with a free Pay as you go SIM"

I'm only a light, occasional user so the 250MB for £5 deal seemed perfect for me, but what arrived today is a micro SIM for an ipad...which obviously doesn't fit my Galaxy Tab (as it requires a full size SIM). There was no option on the order form to specify what size SIM I wanted, but as all the text refers to a SIM (not a micro SIM) I didn't think this was an issue - turns out I was wrong.

Looking at the website again, I'm wondering whether Vodafone even do SIMs for other tablets, or only for ipads? Can anyone advise? I don't really want to make a special trip to a Vodafone shop if they aren't available, and I can't see anywhere on the website where you can specify a full size SIM for mobile internet, tho Vodafone do sell Galaxy Tabs so it would be strange if they didn't also sell SIMs to fit them.

You do know you can get a adaptor off ebay to make it to a full size sim for about 99p might be a good option if all else fails

Hi there -yes you will be able to get the Micro SIM card swapped for a mini SIM card. Just pop into your local Vodafone store and they'll provide you with one and activate it for you. The alternative is the adapter as dazlicous suggested. Although please be careful when inserting or removing the SIM while it's in an adapter as they can sometimes stick.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd rather have a proper SIM - don't really fancy using an adapter. Will try to go to a VF store today - the local ones are closed on Sundays but there is one in a neighbouring town that's open today. Will report back if there are any problems ;-)

I'm just a little frustrated that either they sent the wrong thing, or that the website is set up in such a way that you can't actually order what you need. Online shopping is supposed to be convenient and save on time an petrol, but instead I'm now faced with having to make a special journey to sort it out.

I do already have a SIM from 3 (ordered online, arrived within 24 hours, AND allowed me to choose which size SIM I needed) which I'm tempted to just top up, but it turns out that over 3 months I used less than 250MB so they are twice as expensive as VF for my needs.

Re: 3G SIMs are only for ipads?

Well here's the update.....I went into the shop, and after about 20 minutes they managed to swap the micro SIM for a full size SIM - it took several calls to customer support though before they finally managed to do it. However trying to get it to work in the Tab was not fun.

Firstly the settings that were sent via text message did set up the APN but it wouldn't connect. Found the settings on the VF website and entered them manually, also didn't work. Found some different APN settings on the website - also didn't work. Thought maybe its because I hadn't topped up yet? (tho the top-up page is supposed to work even when you don't have credit) - topped up and re-tried all of the above...still no luck :-(

Then finally I got it work using the exact same settings that hadn't worked before (turned out to be the second set I found on the website, not the ones that were loaded automatically), loaded up a couple of websites ok and then it stopped working again. I'm thinking maybe its the cell round here that's a bit flakey or VF are experiencing some network issues - I'll give them another go later/elsewhere before passing final judgement.

But I have to say that overall it hasn't been a simple process to set this up and to be honest I expected more from Vodafone: I have generally had good service over the 10+ years I've had a phone been with them, but I cant help feeling that in this case they don't compare very well to 3 in terms of ease of use (simply put the SIM in your device and it works straight off...no need to spend a couple of hours fiddling around with things).

Hi Vampgril,

I’m pleased to see that you have managed to get your SIM sorted.

If you would like us to check the local sites for any issues please let me know your full postcode and we will be able to see if you local serving site has any issues.
