hi i have a pay as you go dongle, when i top up with credit it gave me the 3gb allowence and also £1 credit. i assume this is to send text messages from but i keep getting the following message:

Please check:

- Your account allows you to send SMS (some Prepay services do not)

- The correct Service Centre number is selected in Settings

- The phone number is correct

- Your mobile device is available

- A mobile connection is available.

If this error persists, please contact Support at your

mobile network operator.

iv been into my local vodafone shop but they didnt know. they gave me the message service number to try but that didnt work either.
any ideas anyone. :rolleyes:

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. I can completely appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

hi, i have got the exact problem iv had my dongle for about 2 months now, perfect signal, and its mega fast no matter if im on the move or sat at home, but i have this exact problem, i cannot send text messages from my dongle but i can recieve them from other people, this is very strange to me, so when you have got time can you please send me an email letting me know what i can do to fix this problem

Hi, I got my mobile broadband dongle today and i can't seem to send any sms's either, they get stuck in my outbox even with full signal... Could you advise?

Are you using a Pay-as-you-Go modem or Contract modem?

Unfortunately our Pay-as-you-Go modems are not enabled for sending SMS messages, although you will be able to receive. This is because your credit is converted into a data bundle at a higher value rate then you'd get with a standard PAYG tariff. Because of this, there is unfortunately no way for us to charge you for sending an SMS, and thus it is disabled.

My apologies for the misleading and inaccurate information earlier in this thread.

Contract mobile broadband SIMs can send SMS, though this is not advised as it is so expensive. Most mobile phone users have some sort of text message bundle but every message sent using a mobile broadband SIM is charged at 12p. If I pull out my phone instead of using my mobile broadband, a text message to a UK user costs me nothing - I have unlimited (fair usage policy of 3000) texts as part of my price plan.

As Jon says, pre pay mobile broadband SIMs cannot send SMS though they can receive.

I have the same problem and I am new to Vodafone, especially mobile broadband. I would appreciate advice and/if it is even possible to send text messages from your pc via your pay and go dongle. Thank you for any help given..

No, you apparently cannot send SMS on PAYG dongle, as there is no way of charging you - so I was told.

From the last messages in this thread, it appears that this is not a problem, but the intended/expected behaviour; it is not possible, the posts above indicate, to send SMS from a pre-pay dongle.

To confirm what Neil_Brown has suggested, this is indeed correct. It is not possible to send SMS via a PAYG Broadband dongle.

Hi I have a mobile broadband dongle and with the mobile broadband connect software I am able to send SMS messages. This was included within the software pre installed on the dongle. If you were to put the sim in an Android tablet then you can only receive texts not send them as the software has not been released for these 3g devices.
