No 3G in Plymouth PL1

Since the beginning of May I haven't been able to get a 3G connection on my mobile broadband K3565 (pay as you go, no expiry) dongle. I've been using it since 2009 and getting a 3G signal with no problems, until now.

Went into the Vodaphone Plymouth shop yesterday and was told that the transmitter at Mount Wise, Plymouth, is out of action and that BT are on the case! Is this true and, if so, when will it be rectified? Apparently lots of other people have also been into the shop complaining.

I can get a GPRS and Vodaphone Edge signal, but only briefly, so cannot connect to the internet. It's all very frustrating!

Hope you can shed some light on this.

Hi Sailorgirl and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with signal in your area. I appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

So that we can double check that this is being looked into, can you supply me with your full postcode of the area in which you are having this issue?

Thanks

Wayne

Re: No 3G in Plymouth PL1

Hi Sailorgirl

Thanks for getting back to us with your postcode.

I have check the local site ( 51535 ) and I can't see any engineer reports that indicate a fault with the site.

Have you gone through any troubleshooting tips yet, to make sure the SIM is up to date with the network etc?

If you can have a look at our Network Issues thread, this will give the troubleshooting suggestions to try.

Please let us know how you get on with this.

Thanks

Martin

Re: No 3G in Plymouth PL1

Hi Martin

Thanks for getting back. I've looked at your suggestion 'Network Issues' but I think all those points have been covered.

When this first occurred I thought it was because I had followed the prompt online to update to 10.1, which I did, and I've seen on this forum that other people have experienced trouble since doing this update.

So, in desperation, I took my laptop into the Newton Abbot shop and they reloaded 9.3 and I was able to get 3G in the shop, so presumably the SIM is up to date. When I tried to log on again in Plymouth the following weekend I was still unable to, hence the visit to the Plymouth shop and the email to this forum. Why can I get 3G in Newton Abbot but not in Plymouth when I'm right by the transmitter? Incidentally, a friend has had problems in Plymouth and has had his phone reprogrammed to 2G.

I can't see what else I can do, especially as I am not a techie! I know I'm not the only one having problems, as your Plymouth shop verified, so a definitive answer would be good. The thought had crossed my mind that you may be phasing out the use of these dongles that don't expire.

I shall try logging on again this weekend but  as you say there are no problems with the transmitter then I don't hold out much hope.

Thanks again

Re: No 3G in Plymouth PL1

we live in stonehall flats, Pl1 3QZ, just 100yrds from the marina.

Or problems in teh last month have been our phomes unbale to dial out, let alone broardband, although txt seems to work.  - we have two HTC HD2s.

I have a waterproof samsung for sailing, and when i swapped the sim cards over it worked instantly.  So maybe a problme with the 3G bit??

When I called vodafone help they basically said, either ask for a replacment phone - 5 days without a phone, or sign a new contract and get a different phone......???

Re: No 3G in Plymouth PL1

Hi pwarm.

Firstly a very warm welcome, it is great to see new users here! :smiley happy:

I am sorry to hear you have been experiencing difficulties with your signal, I have checked the faults board and sites with the post code you provided, it shows no faults currently and shows a very healthy level, could you advise me that this is currently the case.

Have you always had this problem with the HTC handsets?

You mention that you swap the SIM between handsets with a Samsung, due to this I would recommend taking it to a store to be assessed just to eliminate the possibility of any damage that you are unaware of.

I would like to stress that if you do take it in to store and a repair is needed then please back up all your content as the handset may need to be cleared.

Also you mentioned the possibility of an upgrade, would you like one of our team to contact you to discuss your options, please let us know if you wish to explore this avenue.

Let me know how you get on. :smileyhappy:

Many Thanks
