RAS Error codes 633 and 628

Guys

I keep getting a RAS Error code 633, 628 when trying to connect. I am using Win 7 64bit system which was just bought 2 days ago, this is where this new 628 error code started. Before that using Win 7 32 bit i got this 633.

Vodafone Lite software 9.3, 9.4 &10 with new 64 bit win 7 system: Error code 628 always even when i have a strong 3G signal.

Vodafone Lite software 9.3, 9.4 &10 with old 32 bit Win 7 system: Error code  633 always again when i have a good strong signal. Also on both systems when using 9.3 I can't see my dongle mobile number and can't access my balance where I can using the other 2 software packages.

I have had this problem now since the start of 2011 and tried absolutly everything the Forum has suggested and also 3 phone calls to the service dept which I must say is very poor. One actually said to me that there was no signal in my area which is absolute cods wallop!!

I have also tried emailing the tech guys but the response was a joke and it told me what I already knew and again told me to contact the tech guys by phone which I did to be fobbed off onto the eforum.

Anyone out there got any ideas afore I chuck my dongle in the bucket and go elsewhere?

Re: RAS Error codes 633 and 628

Hey dez007,

Thanks for your post regarding the two RAS error codes you're receiving. Very frustrating, I can imagine!

First of all, can I ask which modem you are using?

RAS 633 normally occurs when a conflict of some sort is happening, and there's something else already using the modem.

  • Ensure no other programs are using the modem
  • Can you try a complete uninstall and re-install please?
Which VMC software version you are currently using?
RAS 628 refers to the port being disconnected or the connection was terminated before it could be completed.
  • Can you try using an alternative port?
If you can get back to me regarding your modem model number and which version of Vodafone Mobile Connect you're using, we'll be in a better position to diagnose, and resolve your issue.
Cheers,
Lee

Thanks for the reply mate

First of I've uninstalled and reinstalled tons of times using all 3 VMC softwares 9.3, 9.4 and the new 10 version.

I've tried using all 4 of my ports on my laptop

I've tried the untick prepay and tick contract in the manage devices section of all 3 versions of the VMC software.

I've also tried the msconfig procedure which has been said on here again with no luck which then tells me there is no conflict with what else is getting used on my laptop.

Like i said I am now using a new laptop which is a Sony Vaio VPCEB3LOE which has the Atheros AR9285 wireless modem installed. The system is a Windows 7 64bit. My previous laptop also had the win 7 32 bit system and again I had this issue RAS 633.

My Vodafone dongle is a K3565-Z REV2

My new current system which I mentioned above now has this RAS 628 error. I am convinced that this is a Windows 7 problem as I have tried this dongle on 3 different xp systems with no problems and also a Vista system again with no problems.

Lastly when using the 9.3 VMC software only my mobile number is not there and also I cant check my balance and when using connection prefrences I cant select because its all greyed out. An Vodafone adviser told me that this was due to this 9.3 VMC lite software is getting phased out.

Let me know what you think

Re: RAS Error codes 633 and 628

Hi dez007,

Thanks for your reply, it definitely sounds like the modem, or maybe the software, is struggling with Windows 7. I'd be interested to know if you're able to connect with a manual dial-up connection. This can be done as follows:

  • Go to Start > Control Panel
  • Select Large Icons from the "View By" drop down menu
  • Double Click Phone and Modem
  • Click the Modems Tab (Fill in the location info if it asks)
  • Highlight the Huwaei Modem and click Properties
  • Click Change Settings then the Advanced Tab
  • In the extra initialisation command field type in at+cgdcont=1,"IP","ppbundle.internet" (please note this is based on you using a PAYG modem, for contract simply remove the ppbundle. part)
  • Press OK and then go back to the Control Panel
  • Double Click Network and Sharing Centre
  • Click Setup a New Connection or Network
  • Select Connect To the Internet
  • Select Setup My Connection Manually
  • Select Connect using a Dial-Up Modem
  • Set ISP name to Vodafone
  • Set Username as web
  • Set Password as web
  • Click Next, then Finish

Once you've done that, you'll be able to connect by going to Start > Connect To > Vodafone. Give that a go and let me know how you get on :smileyhappy:.

With respect mate for the time I've had these errors I have tried all these different connection systems but as you know now to no avail.

I've had this dongle now for nearly 15 months and I could easily say for the first 12 it was fine not without the usual crapping out issues it was great, I even gave it to mates to use on their Windows 7 laptops always using VMC Lite v9.3 which is on the dongle again with no issues. Like I said its been since really the start of this year that this issue started with me and its either a Windows 7 upgrade which your software doesnt support or something has happened to the dongle. Of course the latter it can't be because it has been tried and tested on 2 xp and 1 vista machine so it points to a Windows 7 error.

I work away and I'm off next week so we either sort this error out before I go or I will be phoning up and asking for a refund of my current balance which is on my PAYG SIM and will be looking elsewhere.

Cheers

Re: RAS Error codes 633 and 628

[ Edited ]

628 most likely means another internet connectivity is taking over or else another broadband network adapter is interfering with the Vodafone mobile broadband network adapter. So I suggest uninstalling the Current Vodafone Mobile Broadband network adapter from "DEVICE MANAGER" on control panel, or go to the "Change Adapter Settings" if you're on windows 7 and delete any LAN connection labled under Vodafone, reinsert the dongle and that should install a fresh new driver software for it.

If not - then delete the Registry files for Vodafone after you uninstall the Vodafone software and install it fresh new... You can also system-restore your computer to a previous point of time when it worked with no issues and try again.

I WOULDN'T GIVE UP looking for fixes as the RAS errors are windows-related not dongle-related.
