I installed a PAYG USB (the white one) dongle into a Windows XP machine running the latest service patches etc.

The modem connects on GPRS, but that's not the reason we got the dongle.

SMS incoming is the primary use for this product, after two days of it working - fine It then all stopped.

The GPRS still connects and will pass data through, but trying to send an SMS to it from another phone won't work.

To clarify, I understand that the PAYG dongle will not send SMS in it's out-of-the-box format, but why there is an issue receiving SMS.

Been into the VF shop in Newbury to confirm there's no problems with the CTN, and that's fine.

Is there any other fixes I need to employ?

An upgrade to the software? I tried to follow the link at the top of this tread, but it lands at the generic landing page.

Incoming SMS certainly should not be barred as i believe it is required for the Vodafone My Account setup online. One check you could try is popping the SIM into a phone to see if it works then, the only other thing would be for Vodafone to check the account to make sure that there are no SMS bars applied for incoming SMS.

Thanks for your post. You could check if there are any firmware upgrades available for the dongle or check you're using the latest software on our dedicated Mobile Broadband site.

It's also worth us just checking the CTN at account level again. I would guess that it will have been checked by the Newbury store however just in case there's anything we've missed. I've sent a private message with details of how to contact us directly.

I called support and it seems there was an incoming bar on this account.
The strange thing was that it worked and then stopped.
Ah well, 236 sms messages later, all is well.
