Vodafone Mobile Connect - K3520 - NO SIM

I haven't tried to use my Monible Connect Dongle since I changed to a Windows 7 laptop,

Model: K3520, HSDPA USB Stick

The mobile connect software keeps saying "NO SIM" even though thiere is a SIM present.

I see that quite a few people have complained about Vodafone Mobile Connect dongles operating under Windows 7.

I called the support desk on Friday from work and didn't have my lap top with me but the guy on the help desk, while being polite, gave every impression of not having heard of the "NO SIM" problem or of any problem with the Vodafone Mobile Connect dongle operating under Windows 7.

Can someone at Vodafone please help sort this out.

We had an almost 2 day BT Broadband outage in some areas oh hertfordshire on Thursday night and all day Friday (cable theft) and when I tried to use the Vodafone Mobile Connect it came up short.

Re: Vodafone Mobile Connect - K3520 - NO SIM

I see from the Vodafone site that this device is not supported under Windows 7 (at least it is not on list of supported devices). One would have thought that the support guy would have know this. When I asked him if there was a problem with some devices and Windows 7, he said no!

Can I get this heap of junk replaced?!

Thanks, but it does not help to solve the problem. My device is - according to this document - supported under Windows 7.

Re: Vodafone Mobile Connect - K3520 - NO SIM

Hi herbie_skeete,

To help resolve this issue for you there is a few basic things that I need to check before going any further;

Is the modem on PAYG or Contract?

When was the last time the SIM was used?

If you place the SIM in a phone are you able to connect to the internet?

If you use the modem with a different windows machine, are you able to connect?

What version of VMC (VMB) are you using?

If you can let me know I will be able to advise you further.

James

Re: Vodafone Mobile Connect - K3520 - NO SIM

James Hi.

My reply from yesterday has dissapeared.

My answers were:

Contract

Tried SIM in KT3520 modem yesterday. It didn't work

SIM was used last night in my iPad (anad again today). It works.

SIM works in iPad as above

I tried the modem in another laptop (Windows 7) it didn't work.

What version of VMC (VMB) are you using?

v 10.2.302 and v 10.0.201.2314

Re: Vodafone Mobile Connect - K3520 - NO SIM

Hi Herbie_skeete,

As your SIM works fine in the iPad but not when using the modem it would suggest either a settings issue or a device issue.

The first thing that I need you to do is double check the connection setting for us, to do this please open the VMB dashboard, Go to advanced, and click the priorities tab.

Click the drop down arrow in the mobile connection section and click settings

Click the network tab and make sure that the settings are set to;

APN: internet

Username: web

Password: web

However if these are correct and you are still unable to connect using the modem we will need to look at the possibility of a faulty modem for you.

So we can do this please confirm the above is correct then follow the instruction on my PM that I have sent you directly once we have this we will then be able to discuss this further with you.

You can find your PM inbox here.

James

The USB stick simply does not work. I tried it in two Windows 7 laptops and one Windows XP desktop. The results were the same in every case - No SIM found.

Re: Vodafone Mobile Connect - K3520 - NO SIM

I'm curious - how did you manage to shoehorn a full-size SIM from your dongle into the microSIM slot of your iPad?

Re: Vodafone Mobile Connect - K3520 - NO SIM

I can see how that would work the opposite way e.g. microSIM from iPad placed into a full size SIM adaptor to use in the modem. But physically there is no way to take a full-size SIM from a modem (or phone for that matter) and place it in a microSIM slot.

Unless one trims the SIM — which is very easy to do :smileyhappy:
