Vodafone VMB - Mac OS X Lion

[ Edited ]

I have recently upgraded my MBP to Mac OS X Lion (10.7).  As a result my VMC software no longer worked correctly.  I found a post suggesting installing the new version of VMB 4.06.01.00 which i have installed.  Device I am using is K3565 R2

This was all looking good, but when I try to connect it fails at the last moment, with the following message:

Mobile Connection Error

Could not open network connection.

Check that the APN, user name and password in the current connection settings are correct.
If the problem persists, please try deleting the current connection settings, and re-starting the application.

I have no idea why it's failing to connect as it looks like the connection is about to open okay, then it closes and I get the connection error.

Any advice / help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Vodafone VMB - Mac OS X Lion

I have exactly the same issue and would like to know how to fix it. To add further information for vodafone to diagnose the fault see below....

It doesnt seem to matter what settings you use in the network preferences - these seem to be over-ridden. If you go into help - diagnosics - network for the VMB software, it shows the APN as SMART even though I have stated pp.internet in the network preferences.

It dials and looks like its going to work then closes the connection with this APN message as shown in the previous message.

@vodafone - your help would be much appreciated.

I also have the same k3565 dongle on the 1GB=£15 deal - PAYG - non expiring deal

thanks

Re: Vodafone VMB - Mac OS X Lion

I have the exact same issue as the above two posters. The OS X Lion Preview software (4.06.01.00) installs, runs and detects the device (a K3565) fine, however it's unable to connect, giving the error below after about 30s of trying to connect.

Check that the APN, user name and password in the current connection settings are correct.
If the problem persists, please try deleting the current connection settings, and re-starting the application.

I've tried with the default connection settings, and I've even tried creating a custom connection with alternative APNs that I found on a few websites (the default APN, SMART with username and password web/web doesn't work), to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Glenn.

Re: Vodafone VMB - Mac OS X Lion

OK, I've managed to get it working (via a clue from another post) - the APN needs to be "PP.INTERNET".

You can't change the APN in the default connection, so:

  1. Open VMB
  2. Go to the "Connections" tab
  3. Click the + at the bottom to add a new connection, name it what you like
  4. Go to the APN tab
  5. Enter "PP.INTERNET" as the APN (username and password should be web/web)
  6. You should now be able to connect

If anyone from Vodafone is reading this - it would be good if the default settings in the downloaded software actually worked!

Hope this helps

Glenn.
