Vodafone at Home Broadband

Thanks for the replies, when I get the internet i'll make a note of their email address.
It's supposed to go 'live' tomorrow, I'm far too excited about it, haven't had the internet for ages. Got lots of programmes to catch up on!
Thanks again for your help :)

The horrible thing about 'live' day is that for whatever reason it always seems to actually go live somewhere around 10/11 at night, usually just when you want to head to bed.lol

Hope it all goes okay for you!

All is good so far, although my pc (wired connection) seems to have lost the connection :s It doesn't say it's connected anymore and says that a "network cable is unplugged" even though it's all connected properly and the light for wired connection is lit on the router.
Not a huge problem cos the wireless is working fine but it would still be nice to have it working again.

You might find restarting your PC will fix it.
If not it may just be part if the 'testing' process that is carried out on the router when a new connection is set up. Give it a few days and see if it still an issue. Post back and let us know how you get on.

Well I may have completely broken it now, oops. I restarted my computer and turned the router off and back on again and it didn't help. Tried a few suggestions I found from googling and that didn't work either then my computer generally went a bit mad so I did a complete reset so it's back to factory settings thinking that would work but it hasn't :(
I think it might be a problem with the usb-ethernet adaptor that I use, the usb part seems a bit loose but when I plug it in the computer recognises it then says it can't install the software hmm. It's supposed to be plug & play so I'm not sure why it can't just install it. The light also comes on on the router to indicate it's connected to ethernet so I have no idea.

The light on the router only means that a cable has been connected, doesn't necessarily mean data is being transferred.
You could possibly try a different ethernet adapter if you have access to one?

What Operating System are you using?

Unfortunately I don't have access to another adapter but the one I have is supposed to be plug & play but the computer doesn't seem to be able to install drivers eek.
On my desktop I have Windows XP.

Plug & Play is not always as it seems. As you appear to be aware it depends on the drivers being available for your version of Operating System.
Windows XP may not have fully compatible drivers for that model.

Do you know the make and model of the adapter?

Because I completely reset the computer back to factory settings I think it's on a stupidly old Windows XP Service pack as well so that could be part of the problem, hmm. Obviously without internet I don't think I can access Windows Update to update the computer.
I'm not too sure about the make of the adapter but there's a long number on it which I just googled and there appears to be drivers I can download. Would it work if I downloaded the file on my laptop, put it onto a usb and then copied it onto the pc?

Re: Vodafone at Home Broadband

What do you mean by Vodafone@home? As far as I know, you can't. Why not send your emails from gmail directly? The replies can be pop3'd to your email client however as, indeed Ihave done after setting up a google mail account.
