lost data roaming connectivity

I am in Sorrento Italy and signed up to Euro Traveller
I was told that I did not need to enable data roaming before I left UK
Now here, I am getting persistent Notifications that I have not got data services "because I didn't enable data roaming before I left the UK
I cannot get a good 3G signal and can only connect to data services via Wiki hot spots
Am looking doing something wrong or is this just how it goes?

Welcome to the eForum.

If you’ve got an iPhone, please go to 'Network settings' - 'Cellular' and make sure 'EU Internet' is switched on to allow internet roaming.

You’ll also need to ensure in the ‘Settings’ Menu that the ‘Data Roaming’ is switched on.
