Hi,

This is my first post on the forum so please be patient with a newbie.

I have a Nokia 5230 and recently got a text message from Nokia telling me that new software was available for my phone so I visited their website and installed the update.

Following that I no longer have the very useful functions on the home screen which had previously been available. These include a bar on the top with shortcuts to call log, messages and calendar; an arrow on the bottom which brings up my VIP contacts; arrow on the right opens up my stuff and shortcuts, etc.

I suspect that this is a custom Vodafone theme but I haven't been able to find out how I can restore the original settings or where I can download this theme to re-install it.

I found this very useful as it had shortcuts to stuff I use regularly so help someone can help me get it back.

It' possible that the new software has different themes, but the original may still be available.   If you go into settings, then themes and then standby, you should be able to choose one that suits you.  (Assuming you haven't tried thsi already, of course).

I have tried that but the original theme is not shown as an option. I've also restored factory settings but still the same.

Hi Kirkyboy,

Unfortunately it looks like the new version of the software no longer has this function and the only way to get this back would be to reinstall the older version of software that you had on the device.

Unfortunately I don't have any details on how to do this however, I'm sure that one of our members will be able to help you do this if you wish.

The other option would be to see if you can add your own shortcuts the the shortcut bar on the new software.

Good point by James.  You can customise the shortcuts on the themes, so you may be able to find one that has enouigh options for you to re-create more or less what you had before.

Thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately can't get it quite how I would like the home scrren to appear.

I did find some links to downlaods on various websites when searching for "vodafone home screen" and although they look exactly the same as my original will not install.

If you look at this page http://gallery.mobile9.com/f/1305807/ you will be able to see exactly whay it is I'm talking about, menu bars across top and bottom as well as arrows on each side and bottom which bring up additional menus.

It sounds like you used an additional app for this.

I have a 5230. Problems galore with software. After it went back to Nokia for a second repair, they sent me a diff phone, same model and its fine. But when you do an upgrade, the software defaults (wrongly in my opinion) to factory settings. You need to return to the settings and personalise your desktop again.

Setting, Personal, etc (I think).

the 5230 should not revert to default as it has User Data Preservation.  

Also on that note the 5230 has 2 shortcut bars one for apps/links the other for contacts. are you meaning this? (i may have misinterpreted it for the 3 rows of apps in cooked firmware )
