I've been sent an unlock code but I can't enter it on my Lumia 710

It starts with #pw+ but there's no way to enter the pw+ characters as described in the instructions.

The * key is supposed to enable you to enter the pw+ characters but it just shows the * symbol instead,

Any info on how to do this?

I've just paid £20 for this!!!

I'm having the same problem.  Same handset, same network, but I can't enter the p, w or + symbol either.

i have read u dont need the pw+# part just type the code in with the numbers only. good luck.

Do I enter the code with the Vodafone sim, a different sim, or no sim, in the phone?   It is all very unclear, and I don't want to waste attempts trying it.

Hi All

To enter the p, w and + characters you need to press the * key in sequence. Only the * character will be displayed. 

The p, w and + symbols are found by keying the * key twice for the + symbol, three times for ‘p’ and four times for ‘w’.

You do this with your Vodafone SIM in the handset and once the code has been entered correctly the handset should then display “Sim restriction off”.

I must admit that this is a strange one however I don’t have the handset in the office to test this for you.

The information provided above by Simon on how to enter the P and W is correct however, can you let me know if you have tried this with a non Vodafone UK SIM and without a SIM in the phone?

James, the instructions outlined do not work

With the Nokiam Lumia 710 if you put a vodafone sim card in the phone the only place you could enter any code would be the dialler in the "phone" hub for calling someone, as mentioned above you cannot enter p or w here. If you enter just the numbers the phone thinks you want to make a phone call and tries to call thae number entered.

If you switch the phone off and put a non vodafone sim in then switch the phone back on again it asks for an unlock code (numerical only, no * keys, no # keys, no p's no w's) The codes supplied by vodafone do not work and cannot be entered as their is no option to enter *,#,p or W.

-I have rang vodafone they wont help they simply state the code is correct - it isn't.

-I have taken the phone to a Vodafone store, the store manager was confused and agreed with me that it is not possible to enter a P,W or * Key.

-I have contacted Nokia directly who have confirmed to me that the unlock code should be an 8 digit numerical only code and not the format that has been supplied.

-I have checked other online forums and anyone that has successfully unlocked the phone has used a numerical only code.

-Entering the numbers only from the code sent by vodafone also does not work - I am down to my last 2 attempts before the phone is permanently blocked.

Please help us resolve this issue. I think someone from Vodafone needs to take ownership and to do that they will actually need a Nokia Lumia 710 device to see how we the customers are having problems. Rather than just repeating the same instructions sent via email which do not work.

I have paid £19.99 for this unlock code and spent more on parking, petrol and phone calls to vodafone and I have yet to receive a resolution.

Someone from Vodafone did suggest posting m phone special delivery to them so that they couldunlock the device but I am not willing to spend yet more moeny on postage to do this.

I've also been given an unlock code for my Lumia 710 that starts #pw+ ... This simply won't work on a Windows Phone. You can get the + by holding down 0, but you're only allowed one + per number.. and my number has two.

I would be grateful if someone at Vodafone could clarify please.

Thank you to whoever has sent me a private message regarding this, but I have absolutely no idea where to look for private messages. Doesn't appear to be anywhere obvious?

From what I've read on the internet though, NOkia / Vodafone are giving out incorrect unlock codes. These PW codes will simply NOT WORK on WIndows Phone, and they need to be 8 digit unlock codes instead. £20 wasted. Thanks Vodafone.

If it's any help, everywhere else is saying you need 8 digit codes for windows phone, and you enter them one of two ways.

1 - insert the other network sim card in, and when you switch the phone on you'll be promtped for it

OR

2 - dial ##782# which will bring the same PAC unlock screen up.

I went into my local store again for the 3rd time in a week and they are baffled by this, so it appears that the store staff need to be made aware of the unlock issue with Lumia phones.

Again, time, fuel etc.. wasted on several trips to the store. It's costiing a lot more than £20 the get this phone unlocked.

I am in the same boat as the others on this forum.  I was given an unlock code, 5 days after I requested it, but it was of the type detailed here (with the "p", "w" and "+" characters in it).  I tried to enter the code, as did my partner, but we couldn't do it.  I took it to a local Vodafone store, but 2 sales staff couldn't sort it for me, nor could the store manager.  They had the phone in their possession for about 4 hours (I left it with them for the afternoon, while I attended college), but when I returned to the store, neither the sales staff nor the manager could unlock it.  They have requested another code for me (the request was put in on 7th March) but the new code has not arrived yet.  I have been told that the new code will be 8 digits - and only digits.  I will let you know what happens.

have any of you tried to enter the code without the pw bit cos as far as i am aware that is all you need to do.

I have tried to enter just the numbers, but the phone treats it as a phone number.  It dials the number, then treats it as invalid, as it is too long to be a phone number.
