I tried entering just the number on the unlock screen, and it didn't work. It needs to be 8 digits, and the codes given have 15 digits in them.

Yup exactly the same problem here. Very frustrating.

wasn't the PW code used on old style feature phones?

If you look on YouTube there are video's showing people adding an 8 digit Number code.

Apparently networks other than Vodafone use an 8 digit code. Vodafone has a different code style so I'm told. Might be wrong though.

I requested my unlock code and received it it with 8 hours. Hmm ! Not what I expected but great all the same. 

Unbelievable !!! How hard can this be. All I want to do is type #pw+. WTF, is the code wrong or won't the phone allow this?

So I though about the idea of the 8-digit pin method but when I put my wife BT MicroSIM in it just booted and I was able to make calls. I've contacted Vodafone and they say the 710 would've been shipped locked. No me's thinking I wasted £20 requesting unlock code.

Anyone tried another SIM ???????

I have, yes, and it definitely asked me for an unlock code. Does BT piggy back on Vodafone?

Edit: Yes, BT Mobile uses Vodafone, hence you didn't need an unlock code.

BT Does piggy back but both BT and Voda told me that should not matter. I'm a bit niffed cos there is nobody near me with another type of MicroSIM.....BAH!!!

HELP ME!

OK! I'm currently abroad and trying to talk my wife through this over the phone, so I was wondering if anyone could try this.

What if you create a bogus contact and enter the details of the unlock code as their number. Then from the dial pad, call the contact and see what happens.

Any takers for this project ???

Another thing could be to download a dialer app from the wp store and use that to enter the code.

Well, I just got an email off the NUC team saying that the procedure is correct and if I am stuck then I should send the phone to an office in Stoke On Trent. That isn't happening!

I emailed Vodafone to inform them the instructions they sent for unlocking my phone were for an N95 instead of a Lumia 710:

I didn't elaborate too much as I'm sure they would encounter the same problems we're all facing. So far only a courtesy email acknowledgement but I will keep you updated.

Vodafone reply:

OK! got the wife to try typing / copy- paste unlock code into dial pad and contact mobile number.....but no luck. getting her to download an app is asking a bit much though ;-0

I have tried entering my code with a Vodafone sim in the phone, a 3 sim in, and with no sim.  In all cases, I could not get the p,w, and + symbols to work.  I also tried entering just the digits of the code, without the letters and the +.  None of these options worked.  I even tried saving the whole code as a contact and dialling the contact number, but no joy there either.  I am out of ideas now.

I've just had the email telling me to send my phone to some place in Stoke on Trent.

I don't think so. This is becoming ridiculous now.

So far:

3 trips in to town centre + fuel + time out of work.

And now I have to pay for my phone to be shipped away for god knows how long.
