Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Yep another question.

I have scanned both the forums here and on the Nokia site. There are suggestions for downloading 'Nokia Network App' from the market place, but as I am connected via a Mac then I seem only to be able to access the Microsoft Market place whihc has no useful apps (also I think it may have been removed due to security issues)

I did return to the shop yesterday and the poor girl tried for an hour to get the thing working but to no avail so she replaced it.

Now I can get Internet, GPS, Maps etc but everytime I send a text message with a picture then I get the "Can't connect. Try again" message.

The phone does not appear to come pre loaded with any settings and yes i have tried the "back everything up, hit reset and all will be fine" Sorry no it is not.

So what are the setting?

If I go Settings -> Mobile account -> edit apn

then I have the following

APN = pp.voda.......

username = Web

Password = ***

Then this will all work for Internet, GPS etc

HOWEVER

Proxy server/URL = blank

Proxy Port = blank

Now I have added various info in there from other threads espically one to do with settings on the Lumia 800 but these did not work and prevent all the other networking, GPS working as well.

I CANT ADD another APN setting.

SO how do you get picture messageing working?

Yes it is active on my sim according to the information from the shop.

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Hi k64,

We have been made aware that there is currently an issue with customers sending and receiving MMS on the Nokia Lumia 710.

The issue has been raised with our devices teams who in turn have raised this with Nokia directly to get a resolution in place.

Once I have any more details I will update this thread for you.

James

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Hi,

Any update on this please?

I downloaed the Network app from Marketplace, but that doesn't pull the APN info in.

I've searched online, but cannot get my phone to send MMS.

Bit pointless having the function really.

James - any sign of a fix from Nokia / Vodafone yet? Thanks

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for your time and patience here.

If you have had your account checked and everything is provisioned correctly, please can you try the following and let us know how you get on:

Select Menu
Select Marketplace
Select the Search option at the bottom of the screen (this is a magnifying glass contained in a circle)
Search for – NETWORK SETUP and enter
Select Network Setup from Nokia Corporation (the blue icon with the radio tower in the centre)
Select “install”. Note: You will need to sign in with a Windows Live account in order to download apps if not already done so.
Once downloaded, select Network Setup from the applications list
Select the appropriate PAYG or CONTRACT operator
Select the plus symbol, scroll down to where it states “MMS APN” and enter the below manual configuration;

Access point name – MMS
Proxy address – 212.183.137.12
Proxy port – 8799
No requirement for a user name or password although WAP and WAP can be entered if you want
MMSC Address – http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms

James

If you have any comments regarding how I have handled your query today, please complete our short feedback survey.

Hello James.

Thank you for the update. After downloading the App I could connect to one of three Vodafone,

Vodafone UK Prepaid

Vodafone UK

Vodafone (which is the PAYG)

I tried all three connections using the information you provided, note that you still need to add pp.vodafone.co.uk info as well or else you can't save the settings.

However I still can't MMS messages attaching a picture to a text or going via the camera roll and sharing an image. Each time I try either to myself or a contact it says "Can't send the message try again" same as before.

Internet and GPS still function.

Any other ideas?

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Hi Suekjw,

Can you try the following for me? This downloads a Nokia configuration tool to enable manual set-up.

 - Select "Menu"
 - Select "Marketplace"
 - Select  search option at the bottom of the screen (this is a magnifying glass contained in a circle)
 - Search for – NETWORK SETUP and enter
 - Select Network Setup from Nokia Corporation (the blue icon with the radio tower in the centre)
 - Select “install”. Note: You will need to sign in with a Windows Live account in order to download apps if not already done so.
 - Once downloaded, select Network Setup from the applications list
 - Select the appropriate PAYG or CONTRACT operator
 - Select the plus symbol, scroll down to where it states “MMS APN” and enter the below manual config

Access point name – MMS
Proxy address – 212.183.137.12
Proxy port – 8799
No requirement for a user name or password although WAP and WAP can be entered if you want
MMSC Address – http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms

Let us know if this resolves the issue for you.

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

No, it doesn't do anything. When I press the + and enter the details it won't save until I add a connection name?

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Hi Suekjw,

Can I ask if you are able to enter Vodafone MMS or MMS APN in the connection name box?

If yes, add this and then save the connection, once done please let me know how you get on.

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

[ Edited ]

Just as follow up and a bit of a :smileylol:

After about a week of Vodafone CCare sending various emails I finally got an answer from what I assume is "technical support".

All the MMS setting are inbuilt with the phone :smileylol: :smileylol: and that a "soft reset will solve the problem"  :smileylol: :smileylol:

Soft reset, hard reset yes yes read the forum and I have already tried all that ~sigh~

HMMM Looks like tech support do not know their phones that well. (Yes I know there are a lot of them about and that you won't know everything, but I would have thought that you would get some briefing on NEW phones being released. Or are Vodafone like most places, "Heres the phone, heres the manual off you go"?

If the phone had phone "pre-configured" then I could have seen the info and checked the setting in the Settings -> APN dialog screens.

As a last 'I really don't know how to solve this problem', they have suggested getting a new SIM (as they have not said anything about my account, I assume nothing is broken or blocked) and I have emailed them to say 'yes I'll try that' altough at the moment I am not sure it will fix the problem.

So another 48hour wait to see if they mail me back.

Or I take the phone back and get one of those Samsung things?

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Just to let you know that Warren at your Telford branch sorted this out for me. He took the sim out and put it into another phone so when it was reinserted into mine it looked like it was a new phone and resent all the (correct) settings. Not sure if that would work for you K64 or even if its been suggested?

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Thanks for the heads up Suekjw

I went in to the local Vodafone shop in Crewe I explained what went on and the young lass replaced the SIM with a new one. Started everything up downloaded new settings and now it all works.

So questions are.

Lumia phones do they come all pre set up?

Do you NEED the Nokia Network App already installed for settings to be downloaded and for the phone to work?

Did I just have a dodgy a SIM?

Or is this a just a case for the Twilight Zone (google it is your not old enough to remenber) :smileywink:

Re: Lumia 710 and Photo Messaging

Hi Guys,

Thanks for letting us know that this is now working for you.

From what we can tell you will need to have the application installed on the phone when you place the SIM in the phone as for some reason the phone won’t automatically configure the settings for you without this.

If anyone has any problems please let us know.

James
