N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

Just formatted my N95 8GB to update to v30, PC Suite has been reminding me for ages to update, but since formating, has not done it?
Funny that?

NSU just gives the "failed to connect three times, because of nsi_host_process.exe & nsu_ui_client.exe" message,
tried with OVI and Anti-Virus disabled, no joy, re-installed Nokia Software Updater, but no joy,

Anyone with the same on a N95 8GB?

Any ideas mods plz?

N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

I've had instances where a format has thrown up errors on various things, including USB connection, but a second or even a third format has solved the problem. Probably something malfunnythinks during the format.
It's even happened on the mass memory as well.

Any ideas ...

Try to replace NSU, PC Suite and all Nokia device drivers with newest Ovi Suite (available for download from Nokia software&support website).

N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

Hi robinhood1701,

Thanks for posting! Hmmm strange that it should keep throwing these errors up. The suggestions Sticky Mick and exbros have posted would be the first ones I'd try. If you could perform them for me and update that would be awesome :)

Cheers, Ben

N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

I did update all of NSU, PC Suite and all Nokia device drivers and Ovi Suite, but did not seem to work,
will un-install all, do a registry clean, and just re-install Ovi suite, as that is the latest,
will report back,
Seems others have had the same prob recently, check this-

i just re-installed OVI, which did not update,
will try re-installing PC Suite,
OVI's a bit of a pain,
PC suite is easy enough

N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

Just for your info. You don't need to run PCSuite or Ovi Suite to perform an update.

Just connect the phone, run Nokia Connection Manager from the start menu, tick USB Cable, then start the NSU and perform the update. PCSuite and Ovi Suite will shut down if they're running anyway.

Thanks Mick,
just noticed that,
Downloaded and installed a version of NSU from Nokia by clicking on an icon at Nokia,
Seemed to recognise an update available,
but now cannot backup in PC Suite,
getting a bit cheesed off,
does the V30 update make a big difference?
Does it make it faster, more stable?

N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

You're welcome ;)
Have you backed up the handset before?
It's worth noting that a lot of stuff won't restore from a backup, i.e any apps that are installed to mass memory may not work after the update.
It's also suspected, after some users experiences, that restored settings from an older firmware can cause stability issues.
How I update is I copy all images and videos across to My Documents in File Transfer mode (again, no need to start PCSuite or Ovi Suite because the mass memory is accessible just like a memory stick in File Transfer mode).
I then back my contacts up to the SIM directory (I also have a PAYG SIM in my N73 and use that as a backup for contacts).
Once I'm happy everything I want is backed up I format the mass memory and carry out the firmware update. Once finished, as soon as you power on the handset again you'll get all the internet settings sent to you from Vodafone automatically. I always find it better to start with a clean phone.

With regards to the V31.0.015 firmware it does make a big improvement to the running of the handset. I find mine is far more stable now, since updating I've only had 2 crashes, whereas it used to crash at least twice a day, sometimes in mid call. A lot of themes now work properly, but most importantly the V31 fw fixes a security issue that was found in the previous fw.

N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

I have backed it up before Mick,
Think have read about file transfer mode before,
already done the images and vids backup manually,
just want my contacts, bookmarks and calendar backed up,
sync'd contacts with outlook express, which i do not use,
think you can do the calendar like that as well,
Contacts files are .vcf yes?
would like to just copy them to PC in file transfer mode,
as well as the rest. bookmarks etc,
can you do that?

Thanks for your experience with V31.0.015

N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

Hello Robinhood

There may be an underlying issue with a file on your actual computer, :(

Having tried all of the above solutions we seem to have no choice but to attempt a full install of the NSU and PC Suite (for the backup) on another computer, either that or to try creating a new admin profile on your computer:

1. Start
2. Control Panel
3. Users

I've read through quite a few external forums regarding this and they all seem to be reporting similar problems to those mentioned here.

Thanks

Thanks Reidar,
Corrupt files have been in the back of my mind as well,
Did a reg clean before in re-installed everything, to try and get rid of anything corrupt,
Used Ccleaner for the registry clean, its free, can recommend it,

Good idea of yours, think i will try it and get back,
cheers

N95 8gb - V30 Firmware Update Problem

Ok, I've managed to upgrade successfully to F/W V31

Used Nokia PC Suite,
tried again to back up, did it this time, so it was safe to assume it would re-install the backups, sync'd contacts to Outlook Express as well,
did a multi backup, contacts, messages, bookmarks in one,
then formatted phone and mass memory, and updated,
started re-installing stuff, but installed a duff theme which seemed to mess things up,
so i formatted all again and re-installed stuff,
HINT- Stick to a minimum of safe, tried and tested Themes,
I can recommend HTC Theme by Invaser

The multi-backup i made did not seem to work,
so, i installed the individual backups i made a few days ago which all worked fine,
Think its wise to do individual backups with Nokia PC Suite,
seems safer,
Installed contacts from the Outlook Express Sync, that seemed to work well,
This prob has worked out similar to others,
If you cannot do something, keep, looking asking and trying,
you usually get there!

Thanks again for your help guys
:D
