N97 2.0 Is Released

I was wondering when and how the Vodafone-hacked N97 software would be available: Nokia's software updated refuses to install the latest firmware.

Indeed, I cannot update beyond V11.0.021 as installed originally (custom 11.0.021.213.02).

Ok here is what to do, uninstall ALL nokia application from add/remove (and i mean all) - Restart the computer

Next go to http://betalabs.nokia.com/betas/view/nokia-ovi-suite-20 and install that and then run and plug your phone - hey presto you will be able to get version 12

Nokia Care Point - well, they're fixing my camera cover so hopefully they'll sort that as well!!

Cheers - did you organise this via Voda or go direct to the Nokia Care point?

I have both issues but will not bother sending my phone off for a week or more until I am satisfied that the general software problems are resolved...

I also don't want to invalidate my warranty and not sure if going via routes that do not involve voda will do this? Can a mod confirm please??

My camera lens cover scratches my lens and my GPS hardly works, when it does it is accurate to between 100-300M - which is as useful as a chocolate kettle! I live be a river and more often that not on the few occasions my phone has "found" my locations, it places me in the middle of the river...it was amusing first time round, it is just pathetic now...I want both issues fixed (assuming the V20 firmware does the biz - jury still out from what i read with very mixed reactions) and am wondering how best to go about it....Cheers

re going routes other than voda.

your 24 month warranty is with nokia. vodafone simply act as an agent of nokia in this respect.

Thanks - I'm sure you're right Flagpole - but i want conclusive Voda comment on this point. I am on a 18mth (4mths in) thank goodness but 14 months is still a long time to be stuck with a phone that Voda claim they won't support becasue I went direct to another repair centre - even if it is direct to the manufacturer! I have first hand experience of strange Voda proceedures so would not put that past them. That aside, I am no where near a nokia care point and would rather voda manage the process and be responsible for getting the phone back to me.

I've not arranged it yet as I'm not in the area (Birkenhead Care Point) until this weekend but I called them and they can do the swap in about 2hrs so that'll do for me!! I mentioned the GPS issue as well and they haven't heard of it BUT did say the replacement part is the whole back cover so guessing it'll be incoportated into this...I'll let you know how I get on...

v20 seems better than v12 - although I did manage to wipe my connection settings by mistake but got them back on now...

For those with similar problems, this link gives an official statement from Nokia about the lens issue so on this basis you should be able to get it sorted, should you wish of course -

http://www.nokiausers.net/N-Series/Nokia-N...l-Advisory.html

Also - talks about both the lens and the GPS...Nokia are aware of both although Voda told me neither are seen as issues...hmm

N97 2.0 Is Released

Just tried to check with the Nokia SU if my device can update - not sure why, I know it won't be able to...long one short, my PC does not even recognise the N97 as a storage device...I was at 8M RAM at the time...Reboot and in a mo i'll let you know what happens...

Rebooted with 49.3M RAM before the wifdgets loaded - drops to 22M after they have...

Connected via USB now but the drivers seem to constantly re-install themselves on every connection...is that normal?

Oh - no update available for me...

i'll tell you what's funny.

Do you remember when the v12 update was released and they told us the reason why some people can't update was because the UK releases was being staggered over days to avoid over loading their servers....?

this morning nokia have released 138 variants including the whole of india, china, europe (apart from the UK) and North America. no staggering required.

meanwhile some people are complaining of still not being able to get v12....

i said at the time this 'staggering' was a lie and i stand by that now.

So is v20 not available for the UK at all? Or just VF branded phones.

As I already debranded my phone (I followed your instructions Flagpole) to get the last firmware update early.

not available for uk handsets at all. every other country apart from ours.

and the reason is that vodafone have managed to delay the uk firmware so they don't look bad.

if you've unbranded once just do it to one of the euro codes and v20 away.

N97 2.0 Is Released

Hi all,

You all know the drill by now, so I don't have much to add to this discussion, other than the obligatory warning that installing un-approved firmware will invalidate your Vodafone Warranty, and to see our Firmware Statement :)

Thanks Jon., but we can always swap back to the vodaphone firmware if we need to use the warranty. Quite frankly though, if it was worth the paper it was written on in the first place, the N97 would have been pulled and replaced with something else that actually works.
