The outgoing settings I have used are:
My (talktalk) e-mail address.
User name: as advised by talk talk when I set up my e-mail account a couple of years ago
Password: ditto
Outgoing mail server:smtp.talktalk.net
Access point: Contract Internet
Security|

What should I do????

Welcome to the eForum from all of the team.
To be honest it is difficult when it comes to another companies outgoing mail server, firstly i would recommend using Vodafones outgoing mail server.
To do this you will fistly need to register for a free Vodafone 360 account.
Then use the following outgoing mail server settings on your phone;
Outgoing Server:smtp.360.com
Outgoing Server Port: 465
Outgoing Server requires authentication (SSL)
Use the 360 username and password as the authentication.
Give this a go and give us a shout if you have any issues.

I have, I think, done as you advised to overcome the problem on my Nokia 5230 with outgoing e-mails but still I can’t send them!
These are the actions I took:
1. I opened a 360 account, as you suggested, and made note of my agreed user name, password and e-mail address.
2. I opened E-mail Settings: Outgoing and entered as follows:
E-mail address: The 360 account one mentioned above
User name: The 360 account one mentioned above
Password: The 360 account one mentioned above
Outgoing mail server: smtp.360.com
Access point in use: As I wasn’t sure which to enter, I tried, in turn,
Contract WAP
Contract Internet
Default connection
Which one should be used???
Security I selected ‘SSL/TLS’
Port I selected from User Defined ‘465’ ( but note this seems to revert to ‘Default, the moment I navigate away from the Outgoing Settings page.)
BUT STILL I CANNOT SEND E-MAILS. What do I need to alter?
3. Other settings are:
I opened ‘Settings’/ ‘E-mail’/’Mailboxes/Mailbox in use: This shows ‘talktalk.net’
I opened ‘Messaging’ tapped on ‘talktalk.net’ and opened’ User settings’.
This page shows:
My name: As my friends know me i.e abbreviated first name and surname!
Send message: ‘During next connection’ is the setting
Send copy to self: ‘No’
Include signature: ‘No’
New e-mail alerts: ‘Off’
E-mail deletion: ‘Always ask’
Reply-to address: My talktalk e-mail address.
ANYTHING NEED ALTERING HERE?
I hope this is sufficient info for you to a be able to advise me how to set up my phone to be able to send e-mails.

Thanks gor getting back to us with what is happening on your phone.
For the Access Point. If you use Contract Internet and then make sure that the username is then web and password is web.
The other settings shouldn't make much difference to get this set up.
The port is correct on 465.
Security needs to be (SSL) you did metnion that yours is (SSL/TLS), did you get an option for SSL only?

I have been following some of the comments on various forums and have opened a 360 account which works fine sending and receiving to my laptop.
I changed the outgoing settings as described in your previous posts:-
Outgoing Server:smtp.360.com
Outgoing Server Port: 465
Outgoing Server requires authentication (SSL)
But you say "Use the 360 username and password as the authentication." but later say use "web" and "web" if using Contract WAP
I've tried both with no success.
My phone is a Nokia 5800 and my email provider is fastMail
Thanks and regards
Lloyd

The "web" username and password refer to the WAP access point and yo should leave that untouched. Use your 360 username and password in the settings for outgoing mail in the mailbox settings (same page as you entered smtp.360.com as the outgoing mail server).

Thank you for posting, I'll be more than happy to help you out here
I can confirm that the information given by hrym is correct, you only need to use your 360 username and password as authentication for the Outgoing Server. The web username and password is for the APN (Access Point Name) that you connect with (I've also edited Martin's post to ensure it's correct).
Give these settings a go and let us know if you need any further assistance

Here are my settings
My email address: myname@360.com
User name@ my name
Password: My 360 password
Outgoing mail server: smtp.360.com
Access point: Default connection (I have it set to confirm each time it connects and it is asking me to conect to 'Contract Internet'
Security: SSL/TLS
Port: 465 (but it keeps reverting to default)
I'm sure I'm not seeing the wood for the trees here but I can receive OK to my phone and my 360 account appears to be in order as I can send and receive to and from it on my laptop and pc.
Thanks again
Lloyd

Many thanks for getting back to us, so we can find out exactly where the issue lies please can you let us know if you have verified your details and Vodafone 360 account?
To do this you will need to log into your Vodafone 360 account and verify your email address (a link would have been sent to your email) and also verify your date of birth. (prompted when you log in)
If you can do this and log into your Vodafone 360 account, this will help to verify it has set up correctly and let us know if you are still having any issues.

Thank you for your replies, but I'm still doing something wrong here I'm afraid.
Here are my settings
My email address: myname@360.com
Unless you're using 360 as your email service, your email address should be the one you normally use. You only need to enter the 360 login details
Don't worry about the port apparently defaulting - Nokias do this but the correct port number is still there.
DON'T make any changes to the incoming mail settings or the Access Points (apart from specifying which one to use). If you're receiving emails OK, then your access point is fine.

Yes I can log into my 360 account using my laptop, but do you mean using my phone? I can login and send and receive emails using my laptop to access the 360 account. (by the way no mention of DOB when I log in). As far as I can see no emails were sent to me.
When I opened my 360 account I was sent a text with a link to install 360 on my phone but this failed the 2 times that I tried it. So do I need to persevere to get that installed properly?
I changed my email address in the 'Outgoing email settings' to my 360 one but still no joy.
Am I right in saying that my 360 account should have my fastmail address as my 'Primary email address' so that 360 can forward messages to it?
Regards
Lloyd

The incoming email settings don't need to be touched, so 360 would not need to send your emails to that box. Are you still receiving incoming emails successfully?
The verification of the 360 account is all based on the details you entered when creating the account - the details entered there are used for sending the verification email. this is different to the install emails, though, and you don't need to install 360 to use the email server.
Can you check the junk filters of the email you entered when creating the account - from what you've said I'm guessing you used your fastmail - to see if anything was blocked for me?

Yes, emails can still be received, I haven't touched any settings there at all.
As I said my 360 account functions fine when sending to and receiving from fastmail while using my laptop.
Not sure what you mean by checking the junk filters? I set up 360 using my laptop and only had to verify my mobile number which passed verification OK. Fastmail only came into it by being declared as my primary email address.
When I try to send from my phone any email just gets stuck in my outbox.
Regards
Lloyd

No it hasn't, I'm still waiting for help even though I've been promised they are on the case. Two months without the ability to send email is a long while and I suspect something is wrong with the vodafone system. Everything was fine using the old settings and then they discontinued it and sent us down the 360 route which was the start of my and my wife's troubles. Unfortunately I've still got a long time on my contract left otherwise I'd just change provider. Even if it's something I'm doing wrong I'd expect it to have been pointed out to me by now. Vodafone service and support in this matter hasn't been the best.
If you follow the insrtuctions given for setting up 360 as your smtp server, you should have no problems. I can confirm that they will work with Nokias.

My email address: myname@360.com

Password: My 360 password
Outgoing mail server: smtp.360.com
Access point: Default connection (I have it set to confirm each time it connects and it is asking me to conect to 'Contract Internet'
Security: SSL/TLS
Port: 465 (but it keeps reverting to default)
My 360 account has the primary email address set as my fastmail address to which I would expect any emails to be forwarded.
Obviously I'm missing something here, I just need someone to tell me what.
