Nokia 5230...annoying messages from

Hi,

I need advice, my phone is recieving 5 or 6 nonsense text messages a day from "8885080003436". They are recieveing particularly when using the internet and ovi maps (at least 3 texts!)

It is VERY annoying hearing your phone beep and checking only to find these nonsense messages.

How can this problem be solved???

Re: Nokia 5230...annoying messages from

I've tired doing this...the phone doesn't let me remove the "selfservice" app.

Is there another way to remove my191???

Hi p8rsn and welcome to the eForum

Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with these text messages. I appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

Unfortunately there is no way to remove the my191 service from your handset as it comes built in.

However, is there anything in the text message that is useful or that makes sense?

Are there any clickable links in there that you can select? If so what happens?

Please let me know and we'll be happy to get this investigated further for you

Thanks

Wayne

PS more information on the my191 service can be found here

Hi Wayne,

Yes I still haven't resolved this problem. I've attached a picture of one of these messages in my original post. There is nothing in it that makes sense to me. I think there is a clickable link but it won't open on my phone.

Please help!

PS I've tried resetting the phone and entering the internet settings again but this didn't solve the problem.

It's a common issue with the vodafone 191 app

It uses these mesages to run itself / spy on you

They should be invisable an non chargeable, however they soemtimes are not

see this thread

Re: Nokia 5230...annoying messages from

To anyone that's interesting the only solution I have found to this ridiculous problem was resetting my phone and reformatting my memory card. Haven't had any messages for a couple of weeks now so am in the clear! Shame I've lost all my phone's settings...

PS> I feel the need to say how very disappointed I am with the lack of help from Vodafone in solving this problem with one of their applications.

[ Edited ]

huzzah my post started a bit of discussion

Try

Delete the SelfService application,

Menu > Settings. > Application manager > Installed apps, scroll down to SELFSERVICE and delete it. it fails on some devices. (I dislike the app altogether!)

Paul

Edit: this should be an opt in or opt out service!!!!
