Ok I know not to ask when, but as it's an old handset I would like to know is Vodafone going to release a v60.0.003 firmware for the Nokia 5800 ? or has Vodafone stopped support for this Nokia handset.

(I've been looking and it still outperforms many current handsets - BBC iplayer works and allows downloads - which HTC Wildfires etc don't seem to, not to mention the onboard Maps)

have you tried connecting the 5800 to the nokia software to see if there is a firmware update available?

Yes Jebelious I checked before my first post, and I've just checked again: no new firmware is available OTA or via Nokia suite on PC for my Nokia 5800 from Vodafone.

Vodafone may be able to provide info on the latest approved version, i would imagine that the device is out of support with Vodafone now so they may no longer update the firmware however they may just be taking their time.

i do have a 5800 somewhere but it was not updated for a while, you could always try doing the old change the phone id to get the native firmware. If you take your phone to a nokia repair centre they may even do it for you FOC

Jebelious all true, but does not answer the question asked. An answer from the Vodafone Tech Team is what I'm after:

The latest version of the Vodafone firmware for this handset to be released was v52.

I don’t currently have any information on if we will be releasing any more versions for this handset at the moment. My suggestion is to just keep trying. However, it is worth bearing in mind that this phone has been out for quite a while now.

It's been quite a while since Nokia have released firmware v60.0.003 for Nokia 5800. Do you have any more news on whether Vodafone intend to release this to their customers?

I have taken another look at this for you and the latest approved Vodafone software for the Nokia 5800 is Version 52.0.007.

Unfortunately as this was released January 2011 it doesn’t look like we will be approving Version 60 for the Vodafone branded devices.

Being as you are looking into this can you confirm that voda have abandoned all Symbian60 devices (eg the 5800, N97, C6-00) and will not be providing the latest updates for any of these.

Would also be nice if this is the case, to get a statement as to why voda won't simply authorise the manufacturer to release the unbranded updates for the voda varients of these devices.

James asked me to take a look at this- we've definitely not stopped providing updates for S60 devices, apparently there's one in the works for the C6 at the moment.
I can't offer any timescales on that one, or any others, but we'll look to make them available if and when we can.
