Nokia C3 - wlan problem

I also have the same problem, on a phone I bought today. As a cynic it seems like Vodaphone want to lock us into using a potentially chargeable service rather than our own (or free) WLANs. Annoyingly I am going abroad on Thursday and I bought this phone specifically to avoid the overseas download costs, and restrict browsing and email retrieval to WiFi hotspots.

What are Vodaphone going to do?

I don't think vodafone want to lock anyone in.

If you have a free allowance, i'm sure Vodafone would rather you use it as little as possibe. The less you use your allowance of mobile web the more £'s for them. Only when you go over your free allowance will vodafone make more money off you.

What concers me more is it has taken me this long to ge the matter resolved. If it had been much longer I may not have been able to the the phone exchanged....

Hey guys I bought this phone yesterday (and one for my partner today). I have had the exact same problem and have managed to rectify the problem by manually entering the WAP settings. Password should be 'web'

Just follow it exactly to the letter mate and should work fine. Both of my C3's I got (one from Vodafone the other from P4U) have exactly the same problem but this sorted them out.

Nokia C3 - wlan problem

Thanks for your help

Ok, I've done all that. When I have my home wifi network stored in the c3, it does seem to connect automatically.

But when I removed my home wifi connection. I tried to access the web, hopingit would give me a list of all the available wifi connections. Like it does in the demo.

But it still insists on connecting via the mobile web. Any suggestions.

Obviously if i'm in my favourite restaurant and they have free wifi, i'm hopiong the c3 will look for the free wifi before using the mobile web. I had a e51 and the way that worked when offering connections is very similar to the demo on the c3.

The other thing is, i'm hoping to use opera mini. now whenever i use opera mini in never offers any type of connection.

any suggestions.

Nokia C3 - wlan problem

Hi

Same problem with 2 models (1 slate 1 pink) that I bought from a Vodafone store yesterday afternoon.

I have tried the manual settings given a few posts above but no joy.

Any updates on this as it appears that it is the same with every model not just "a small percentage" as previously posted by an ADMIN.

NOT HAPPY!

Same problem for myself too. Random connection to either mobile internet or Wifi. Connects to Wifi at home easily enough if I force it to, but won't detect it on its own.

I called customer services yesterday and the first adviser put me through to another department. After waiting for 20 mins, the guy that answered said I'd come through to the wrong one! He gave me a new number so I then held for another half hour. Utterly ridiculous. Didn't get anywhere so emailed yesterday and am awaiting a response.

On a different note, does anyone use the Ovi account to store contacts, etc? I tried to synch with it and it keeps telling me that it's failed. Any thoughts?

I bought this phone to replace my HTC Magic, which has its own ongoing issues on another thread!

Back to O2 for me I think in the future.

hmmmmmmmmmmm, I just went into the ovi store and it gave me the option of either using my WLAN or Vodafone Internet.

Shows you then that it is there just not getting that option for internet.

Nokia C3 - wlan problem

Hello again

I have also tried the above, and same as others, did not work for me also. I went into the store I bought the phone from, explained it to the shop assistant and he pretty much said I'm wrong. LOL. First he said "Of course it connects if your near a wifi, it will use that, not the mobile internet" and I said "It switches as I'm using it, it doesn't ask if I want to use wifi or mobile, and most of the time it uses the mobile net" so he asked how did I know that (Felt like he was talking down to me really..) so I explained that the letter in boxes changes either from E to G as I'm using it. He then went to use my phone and said sarcasticly "The letter in box... okay.. hmmm..well it connects to the internet.." and he showed me, it was mobile internet.. so I said that on the Vodafone forums, they said it was a known problem, but because I bought it in the store was wondering if I should bring it back to them and he said "Well I've not heard of this problem, they would of told us but seeing as it connects to the internet I don't see a problem" so I told him "well, there was..." and he said "Well go back on the website then!" RUDE & embarrasing really, as the shop was full.

I thought for me, the best idea was to go into the store I bought it from, as I haven't got signal at my flat so can't call out (Vodafone are aware and its a fault at the site) so now I'm back to square one in wondering what I should do?

I just tried to go onto Ovi store, same as above poster, and it asks which it should connect to!

How bizarre! I tried on web afterwards, but it didn't give me that option.

Thw whole point of buying the c3 for me, was that it had wifi.
If I wanted a phone that just connected to the internet I would have chosen a different phone. I too has a similar experience in the local vodafone store. Just totaly dismisive and uninterested. Ok you buy online, you deal with people online or over the phone. But that's not always as easy as it should be.

Nokia C3 - wlan problem

I have found a temp fix which will allow browsing on the internet via WLAN/Wi-fi.

Go onto the OVI store and download the latest version of opera mobile. That works and gives the option of connection either via WLAN or Vodafone Internet.

I don't really like the opera browser but it will do me for now as a temp fix until Nokia sort out the problem.

It appears to be a software fault on Nokia's Internet programme which is missing out the "connection select" menu, as I have stated above I have had the menu pop up when using Ovi Store, Email and Opera Mobile programme.

Hope that helps for now.

Please bear in mind I have set up the manual connection points as per the post above and still have this selected.

Nokia C3 - wlan problem

Right, after another hour on the phone without a result from Vodafone (never experienced such poor customer service in my life), Nokia have been a bit more helpful. I had an email from them today and spoke to them and both times they have acknowledged that there is a known problem and they are working on the fix.

Shame Vodafone handset support have absolutely no idea about this when I've phoned. Over the past few days I've spent 3 hours trying to speak to someone at Vodafone to get it resolved, although admittedly most of that time was in a queue! I'm also awaiting an email response from 2 days ago. Nokia replied in 5 hours. Vodafone have something to learn there I think.....

Thanks for that,

Did nokia give any indication of when the fix may be issued and how it will be delivered. Will we all need new phones or will it just be a case of installing new phone software. If it is just a case of installing new software, i'll keep hold of my new phone.

Come on vodafone admin team, give us some info asap. If you no info, but are in the process of finding out, please tell us.

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with this and understand how frustrating this must be for you.

So that I can get this raised as a known issue can you all provide me with the software version on your handset with a brief description of the exact problem that YOU are experiencing just to make sure you're all being affected by the same issue.

To find out what software level your phone uses just enter *#0000#.

Please let me know and we'll be more than happy to get this investigated for you.

The fault is this. When connecting to the web you are not being given a choice of how to connect the phone to the web. It always conent via the mobile web. The phones own demo, cleary shows when a connection is needed. The phone will offer all available connections including wifi within reach. Yes, the internet does work but there is no point in having a phone with wifi if 99% of the time the phone will not let you connect to it.
